Paul Weller

Paul’s first solo record is still one of his best in my opinion and this track Kosmos one of my favourites from that LP. Coming full circle it features the multi talented flutist and Sax player Jacko Peake who also plays on Paul’s new record Fat Pop and the beautiful vocals of DC Lee mother of Leah who also co wrote and sings on Shades of Blue from Fat Pop.

Study in Blue from Sonik Kicks I love the way this drops into a Dub Reggae track halfway through.

Another BB Sessions featuring Miles Kane and an epic version of Dr John’s Walk on Guilded Splinters featuring The Mysterines.

And the original and the best.

Paul Weller & Boy George with the BBC Symphony Orchestra live from the Barbican last night.

Unfortunately George’s voice seems to have gone a bit though it does highlight how good Paul’s is holding up.

And singing Broken Stones with James Morrison

Listening again to this excellent new record from Paul Weller.

My black copy is dead flat has some slight crackles on the run in but there after is very quiet there are no scratches or nasties on any of the tracks on either side.

If I’m being hyper critical then there is some very slight sibilants here and there but this is on my copy and on my equipment.

I’m using a Rega P8 with an Audio Technica VM760 SL.

As is usual when it comes to audio trust only your own ears on your own equipment.

I think it’s a great album and I’m excited to get a copy. Out of curiosity, what was the pre-order cost in the UK? It’s not yet released here (NZ) and the pre-order cost is $65 which is about £35, a lot for a standard LP. New LPs are typically $45-$55 here.

My friend owns a vinyl shop (here in the UK) and all new PW albums are at the higher end of his cost price lists.

He was selling the “indie store” yellow vinyl for £27.

A reissued Wildwood sells for £35, as an additional reference point.

Here is the full 5 track Fat Pop session from Noel Gallagher’s studio.

Thanks. I’ve just paid $70 for David Gray - Skellig (2LP) and $60 for Goldfrapp - Seventh Wave (1LP), at the local shop. (About £36 and £31 respectively.) I guess it’s a sign of the times, I understand that shipping costs have increased.

If I’m being fair, we paid $34 for a full-price CD in 1995, and inflation since then has been 55%. So I suppose those prices are justifiable.
