Where is that Andy?
Is that a CD lending library?

Yes the Barbican Music Library in the City.

Really! :flushed:
It seems to have changed a bit in in the almost 30 years since I was last there.

Andy, have the moved the music section down into a basement level or something.
I distinctly remember the space being much airier when I went. Could be my 30 year older memory playing tricks on me of course🤔

It was where I remember it being in the last 40 odd years - walk throught the reading in and out check desk and down the stairs on the left to a lower level.

I remember borrowing the first Sade album when it came out so that must have been 1984. Above I typed ‘last 20 years’ and now realise it is 40 years which seems impossible.

The racks looked higher today so maybe that is making the space seems smaller.

Upstairs in the study - custom built record rack from over 15-years ago, plus 2 extension cubes.

And if you are wondering about the pictures above

  1. Lithograph of David Bowie’s last photo shoot, that came with the Limited Edition No Plan EP
  2. Gregory Porter - “Don’t forget the Music” from tour 5-years ago
  3. PF “Wish you were here” Album artwork signed by Storm Thorgerson

And I know I must get some sleeves for the 7” singles that were given to me, like that.

3 more racks of records downstairs, next to the HiFi, but no room for the entire record collection.
‘Need a bigger room’

I also used to go there in my lunchtime to borrow a few CDs, a great sense of calm inside the Barbican.

Thanks for the pictures.

Yes I had half an hour to spare so I went through the music section to the music books and scores picked the Mojo magazine off the shelves and went to my favourite seat.

Instantly transported back 10 years.

A bit of a mishmash, I’m afraid. First, a Billy by the main R speaker. Rock/pop A-J in this one:

Must get rid of those DVD-Rs - never going to use them now. Rock/pop J-Z is at the back of the room in a Quadraspire case, with a Venetian mask for decoration:

Classical is in an identical Quadraspire, partially behind the sofa:

Finally, film scores and Jazz with various other bits are in two more Billys by the fireplace:

Oh no - after praise like that I’m going to have to add all of these albums to my favourites on Qobuz. :grimacing:

Mrs Deeg suggested relocating the vinyl closer to the TT..

Still hidden from view though normally..

CDs have remained elsewhere since they are no longer played.

Unfortunately you need a turntable to discover all their greatness. All these albums are pure analog recorded in the beginning of the 70’s.
But Qobuz will let you see a pre discovery at least.

My music room is slowly taking shape. Still a bit of a mess but the LP shelving is new.

Part of the music collection/room/system. Can’t fit any more in the frame.

Hi @JosquinDesPrez.
The room looks superb!
Can I ask you who makes the black record storage unit in your last photo please?
Kevin

Yes, that is the Morad unit from divider-records (Google search should take you right to the product page). They are a small company in Ohio that make very nice products like this.

They did three customizations for me:

  1. black ash finish to match my Naim Fraim
  2. Custom leg height to match the height of my Fraim rack
  3. tops shelves lined with black felt to prevent records sliding (since I use 5mil poly outer sleeves)

Cost is about $1600, with a 12 week lead time.

@Bart also has one.

And thank you for the high praise of my room.

Thanks JDP. I’ll take a look now. The catch may be whether they’ll ship to the UK and the total cost including shipping and import duty…:crossed_fingers:
I’d also need it the right height and probably a single LP width only.
If cost prohibits I may, without treading on any copyrighters toes, use it as a guide for getting something similar made in this country.
Something like that would look great filling the space next to the brain stack here:
