I’m not a guitar player but my son is and works in the industry.
It came as a total surprise to my wife and me that Rusden is home to Auden & Gordon Smith Guitars. Even more surprised that they make them there and have a very lovely showroom, which is open to the public.
It is close to Rusden Lakes shopping centre and handy for those times when a loved one wants to shop and you’d rather see some lovingly crafted guitars.
Here are some pics of the showroom, it’s a work in progress.
Clicking on the word “images” revealed them. Thanks!
Did you purchase tickets for the guitars? I have a friend who is a professional classical guitarist, and he does this when he travels to Europe from the USA to play.
Lowden offered to have them shipped. Some airlines are better than others when it comes to booking instruments, so I needed to be sure that the guitars would get on board as there was no way I was going to put them in the hold.
We live near to the airport so I made two trips to the airport, the first to talk to a Lufthansa supervisor and the second to fly. They let me take the guitars on as hand luggage because the flight wasn’t full but this was a complete exception to the rule. Normally yes you can book a seat for the instrument. Easyjet have a booking process in place were the name on the ticket is Mr. Musical Instrument.
Every time I fly, I see people with guitars and wonder how they are pulling it off, especially when they’re using gig bags. I just know I’d get screwed, and airlines are notorious for not paying for damages. Plus, even if you’ve made arrangements, some gate clerk with an authority complex could kibosh everything.
