It’s probably not worth a new thread, but what are peoples views on the interconnect between a phono stage and a Naim pre-amp? RCA to RCA, or RCA to DIN. My dealer reckons the later, but says my Chrysalis isn’t good enough for my LP12, so I’m running the Audio Sensibility at moment. Worth going up the Chord range with a boutique RCA to DIN?
I haven’t gone from RCA/RCA to RCA/DIN but I was very pleased I changed a Chord Shawline to Sarum T RCA/DIN it was a great uplift. I had a lower spec LP12 at the time and going into my 552DR. Well worth trying.
I went from a chord chrysalis to a chord epic recently, both RCA-DIN. Very pleased with the results, not having been a great cable “believer”. Sufficiently pleased in fact that I may look at Sarum/Music in due course.
I got my dealer to change my linn silvers to din at the pre amp end. LP12 and linn DS.
Edit - my logic was simple - linn eq their devices using the linn silvers. They sound great. I try not to use the cables as tone controls.
Edit2 - it was the same logic with speaker cable. Kudos eq their speakers against naim amps using their ks1 cable. It sounded great and considerably better than the more expensive naim cable in my room and to my ears (which sounded wonky to me). So life was simple.
One other thing is that I had a custom length made which I believe was either 1.1 or 1.2 meters which is just the right length when LP12 and 552 are side by side when you are using an internal Urika.
I am using the standard silvers that were installed with my Linn Klimax LP12 upgrades. Sounds excellent to me. As it’s all installed into Urika 1 not a DIY job to change to DIN. Am happy to leave it as it is.
Is there such a big difference with Klimax LP12 changing RCAs to RCA to Din?
I suspect DINs may be as challenging as adapting Linn’s Silvers for BNC (to say Superline). Several dealers have told me it cannot be done, as Linn’s cable isn’t able to accommodate the terminations – a shame as BNC is supposed to be a better connection (earthing/impedance?) for a Superline.
Dan - when Peter Swain (Cymbiosis) fitted the Urika to my LP12 I happened to have a redundant Naim Lavender interconnect (RCA to DIN) and he said he would use that rather than the Linn silvers as it would be an improvement. That was some years ago and every time he has fitted an upgrade it has been a very clear improvement as revealed through the interconnect (eg Ekos SE, Kore, Carousel). I expect other interconnects might be better but this does seem very worthwhile and it’s something to consider if you ever have the LP12 worked on.
I’m sorry to hear of your latest tribulations but I hope you get decisions very soon on any possible ops and wish you the very best for successful results.
Given the raft of upgrades done, I will leave the LP12 in terms of cables. I might change it out at a later date. Sounds wonderful to me. And of course I could upgrade the purple Chord power cable too.
Have ordered a new outer platter and lid. The lid I have is pretty good but fancied a new one. There’s not much left of the original LP12 apart from plinth and top plate.
Can anyone suggest a better power cable for the Klimax Radikal 2. Powerline won’t fit. Chord purple is slight upgrade on powerline lite. I have both.
