I listened to you on getting Urika I and I will listen to you now. Will leave the silver cables be. It is afterall how Linn designed it. As with Urika phonostage. Glad I changed out what I had for Urika I.
The silvers are great just as is as well. It was only just because that I did it.
Put it this way, versus my ND555 with two 555PSDR, Superlumina interconnect. PhoenixNet and EE8, Farad Super 3 Audioquest Diamond and Vodka ethernet cables…
The LP12 sounds better to me.
5 years here and going strong. Hope that hasn’t just jinxed channel 1
Fortunately I have a spare set of silvers.
That I understand
Hi Dan
Very happy that you still are and can only hope my help is as inspiring as your attitude to what’s happening.
Very best wishes to you.
All my linn gear just runs with their cable.
I really wish they hadn’t named the later Urika 2
There was never a 1 and they should have called the 2 digital.
Urika Analogue
Urika Digital
One is not an upgrade on the other just an entirely different way of passing the signal.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I have a Heed phono stage which only has RCA outputs, so the Linn T-Kable goes into that and I use an Audio Sensibility Statement SE Silver RCA Interconnect to the 552. My dealer did suggest swapping to a Chord Epic (at-least) RCA to DIN to the 552.
Cheap, easy way to get a steer on DIN vs RCA is to buy one of these.
£13 from the dealer in Rearsby (eStore on website).
Try the Linn Silvers via the Mayware into a DIN input and see which you prefer.
I use a Chord Signature ARAY RCA/DIN to connect my phono stage (Rega Aura) to pre-amp (252). Although Aura has a balanced XLR output option I’ve stayed with the unbalanced RCA output.
My LP12 → Rega Aura connection is handled by an Audio Origami cable from the LP12 into the Aura (RCA).
I’m very happy with both these connections.
I am delighted with my LP12 Full Klimax. I really went for it in the end and it sounds sublime. The Urika built in phonostage is excellent and makes things easier without another box.
Radikal 2 is fantastic. Well I did the lot, as you know in one big hit and sometimes that’s the only way to go.
Listening to albums versus streaming. There is no comparison in my system.
Brilliant as ND555 is, the LP12 has the upper hand. Sounds incredible.
Your comments do make it tempting to flog the SL and supercap DR and get a Urika for my Radikal 2. Especially if nothing is done to alleviate the current fiasco !
Frees up a couple of shelves in the racks too !
Dissenting voice here - try an adapter and see the improvement running the LP12 into a DIN socket. I went from Linn Silvers into the 552’s RCAs to a chord RCA-DIN cable and the improvement was remarkable.
I was already sold on the change to DIN however just by using an adapter with the silvers. Mayware I think they are called. Very cheap to try.
I did it myself and I have very limited diy skills. It took about 10 minutes and for me it was worth every penny. I bought a custom length as you have some cable length being used in the LP12 base board.
Well then.
My dealer provided me with a mayware adaptor to try when I moved from Linn to Naim amplification.
The adaptor is good enough to give a taste but I found it a very loose fit in the Din socket.
In fact I was put off with the niggle that I thought after all these years I’ll give it a try.
Well then I ordered all the relevant Naim Din leads for next visit change over in my deck.
At the same time my Linn CDP showed signs of needing an upgrade so I bought the Naim CD5SI perfect match for my new SN3.
I set up the CDP with the leads I was using all Linn silver RCA I had no din leads.
I switched on the CDP and no sound so after a minute of rabbit in the headlights I realised that from factory all outputs are not online and only the din one is.
Aha there is one in the CDP box so installed it and got the tunes.
I wasn’t happy the sound was very thin and rather quiet so I thought obviously give a while to warm up etc.
So read the bit in the manual about how to select other outputs and set it to my RCA started a disc and WOW!
All the slam and depth was instantly there and more volume too.
So changed back to din and it went dud again.
So the gear is all on Silvers now and the adaptor went back.
And all is super with Silvers RCA
Exactly. A dedicated good quality phono to din lead is better (as a dealer here I can’t drop Naims - Mods rules!! )
But for a test for yourself the little Mayware will give you pointers as to which way to go. Experiences may vary depending on which Naim product (like SN3 or 552) but I can say IMHO avoiding the phono inputs on a 552 and using the din inputs is just better, more organic/musical/involving. Also you can program each input selector button to the socket you want as 552 owners will know, enabling better cable dressing and all the additional sonic benefits there! Tip for the many 552 owners here … Use socket 2 for best results

Peter
Interesting Peter! I’ve had my vinyl going into input 3 recently. I’ve just changed that now to input 2 and will listen later!
I’m intrigued if there’s an explanation for the superiority of input 2?
Or unexplained, but it just seems to be so in your experience ?
Thanks for the tip.
Kevin
Strangely something similar happens using my Urika stage into the Tuner input on my Supernait 3.
This is my LP12 full Klimax. Just added brand new lid and outer platter.
Plinth was originally black. Previous owner sanded it and restained it.
All that remains of original Sondek is plinth and top plate.
I have done the following upgrades, in this order:
Lingo 1
Akito tonearm rewired, repaired and upgraded by Audio Origami
Cirkus bearing
Kore
Karousel
Ekos 2
Trampolin 2
Different carts and phono stages including Graham Slee Reflex M and then Tom Evans The Groove + SRX power supply.
Dynavector XX2 Mk11
Since May 2024:
Linn silver cables
Klimax Radikal 2
Urika I
Ekos SE/1
Keel
Kandid
New lid
New outer platter
I bought it about 7 years ago or so. Bearings were shot on Akito but loved it.
I may change plinth and top plate at some point
It is my favourite source above ND555 in full 500 DR system.
