Show us your Sondek

Despite that, my OCD means that I switch it from off to on when playing and vice versa when not…madness…

Nice plinth!

Bought my Sondek Majik level in 2012. Some upgrades over the years. Radikal, EkosSE, Karousel etc…

Lovely shot. The LP12’s simple elegance always stands out for me. All you need for a superb turntable and not an ounce more.

Here is my Sondek:

I originally purchased it and the Ittok LVIII arm in October 2016, a few days after buying a 555PS to power my NAC-N 272 and then thinking the Manticore Mantra that I had at the time wasn’t a good enough source for my system.

At the time of purchase, my LP12 was powered by a Lingo Mk 1. I got the seller to send it straight to the Sound Organisation in York, where David arranged for the Lingo to be serviced and he updated the LP12 with Cirkus and Trampolin 2 and fitted a Goldring GL 1042 cartridge.

My LP12 has since been back to the Sound Organisation twice. First to upgrade the Lingo 1 to Lingo 4, then earlier this year I replaced my Stageline with a Prefix and upgraded the cartridge to a Linn Krystal.

Unfortunately, I’ve had to move my Hi-Cap DR to it’s new location directly beneath the NAC-N 272, as about 50% of the length of the Snaic is coiled up inside the LP12.

My LP12 and original Lingo Mk 1 were manufactured in 1990, but the only original components still remaining are the plinth, top plate and outer platter.

Post Karousel upgrade, which appears to have delivered quite a lot in lowering noise.

Plinth is Chris Harban-produced Japanese Cherry.

@HappyListener lovely looking deck - Karsouel the sound of silence! enjoy

Indeed. I was very surprised by the reduction in groove noise - who’d have thunk it.

Such a shame that my Tranquillity won’t now fit (well, not without material butchery) but, on the other hand, the suspension has been freed from bearing the weight of the Tranq and SKale, which I don’t think was doing the suspension many favours (esp the spring near the arm).

What a beautiful LP12!

First class ‘LP12 fettler’ is David. Any doubts ask Peter S!

I picked this up earlier this week (refurbished from Cymbiosis: Ittok LVII, Cirkus bearing, and Lingo 2) … it’s changed my listening habits.

Some like it fluted.
How do you like yours?

Having had it 26 years I am quite attached to it, though if I were choosing new now I might not get the same thing - not sure I would get a fluted one. I really like the Chris Harban plinths, and I understand the stiletto is a big improvement sonically. But my plinth is “my” plinth

Miss fluted the best of the lot. I’ve now got a rosewood finish which is OK but no where near as said flutes and goes with the first LP12 I bought in 1991 from a wonderful dealer in Lewisham. I never forgot being told that I’d turned up collecting something that needed building. Four hours later I’d taken a rather long lunch break but was very happy when I got home!

I do like flutes, but having lived with flutes for several years on my first and second LP12s, I swapped to a plain (unfluted) Linn walnut plinth, before stepping up to a Woodsong wenge plinth. I heard from Peter Swain on Monday that Chris Harban is no longer making plinths, so if you want a Woodsong you’ll have to be quick.

Looking on the Cymbiosis website, it suggests that Peter still has some Woodsong plinths in stock, including two fluted walnut models, which could be just what the doctor ordered.
