The last update shown, in Tiger News, is 2018…
Yes, It’s really too bad. I have just now played around with my two arms and the carts and swapped them around. It’s quite amazing by how much the Javelin top is superior in comparison to the regular Aro. Also now, that my deck is up to specs again it really blows me away in what uncharted musical territories analoge effortlessly advances where my cd555 digital can‘t even dream of
“Is that a new cartridge”?
No my missus
Stop posting that. The fluted Stilleto is growing on me and it’s expensive
…Was standard, no cost… if you got organised and bought one years ago…
Hi, what board do you have the Eklipse sitting on ?
Hi there! Its on a Vulkan wall shelf.
Thanks for that. I have mine on Mana table with glass and would like to try it on a top quality base board just out of curiosity ! The Tangerine plinth and base are certainly lovely upgrades.
I am not sure if the Vulkan shelf is still available though…
No, I’d have to be lucky and find a secondhand one I think.
If you want to do right by your LP12 then I say get it serviced by a professional, a full rebuild will be worth every penny. Linn’s number one dealer is in Leicester, enough said!
Completely agree
Or just go local.
Lots of great LP12 specialists out there, quietly getting on with offering a brilliant service.
Maybe better to develop a local relationship in the long term.
Although Peter in Leicester would be my preferred option, I plan to have it serviced by a local Linn dealer here in Germany. He is only 35 minutes by car, so I will take the LP12 and pick it up myself. Unfortunately, he has dismissed Valhalla as dangerous old tech and believes it must be one of only a handful that might still work. When I asked about recapping the Valhalla, he told me it cannot be done and tried to convince me that it is on the verge of failure. He seems keen to sell me a Majik or Lingo 4 to replace it.
A Valhalla serviced by Darren this October is already on its way to me. That, a service of the rest and installation and alignment of a new cartridge by the dealer should keep the old fruitbox going for the next few years in close to original spec. It will be a good match for CB shoeboxes with Spendor 3/5 speakers.
For the main system, I’ll watch the second-hand market for a more recent LP12 with corner braces as a basis for a Kore/Karousel/Ittok/Lingo/Trampolin project perhaps next year.
Hi, yes I also got one of Rogers brilliant arms, number 5 I think, and will never let it go. Roger took it to the Sound Org (York) where he helped David fit it (along with his Akula sub chassis).
It sounds and looks superb.
Yes agree there are local dealers who will service your LP12 but be careful some are better than others. I think it’s worth the time and effort to travel to an expert such as Peter. He’s not at all local to me but I would not let anyone else tinker with my beloved LP12.
There is some truth in this. The Valhalla board has some resistors which are carrying Mains level power - which are one of the4 known failure points. But @Darran at Class A can service your Valhalla board, which I believe includes replacing these resistors - as well as all the Caps…
Will then be as good as new… as a Valhalla ever was…
[I have not long swapped out my own Valhalla board for a Lingo - which has just been serviced… I just need to fetch it… ]
And there are also great options in Glasgow and Manchester and Norfolk and London and West Country, or even Germany or elsewhere.
Just saying…
Local is good.
