Recently swooped out an original Valhalla for a Lingo. Couldn’t help but keep and service the Valhalla.
Although, just got to decide how to use it now. FWIW, I’ve also kept all the other bits that have come off my LP12 during recent upgrade work. Can’t help myself. Maybe I’m a hoarder!
I had already serviced my Valhalla and run it for several months. Then a Lingo was ‘found’ for me, by @Cymbiosis. So naturally… I bought it…
Once the Lingo was up & running, I listed my serviced Valhalla on the Bay place.
It sold quickly… for £74-00…
No Linn bits kept here… Unless you count the 45rpm adaptor…?
I’m wondering whether to keep mine for a bit ?
In case I decide to use it again. Like I said, maybe I’m a “hoarder”
[ Edit : We’ve just moved home and I’m looking at too many boxes which have followed us around for years. We simply don’t need it. We should really bite the bullitt and clear stuff out).
More Vinyl is a slow process for me. I do not buy ‘new’ stuff - only 70’s/80’s LP’s, which ‘fit’ with my collection. Filling in the gaps, as it were… I have just done this for Be Bop Deluxe. Previously, I ‘restored’ my Robin Trower LP’s.
[PS. I do hoard Naim bits though… SNAIC’s I have…!! And Phono boards…]
My online detective skills are admittedly poor but I haven’t found specific order details for the new fluted plinth, or is it down to via dealer contact?
I’ll ring my dealer of course, but just wondered - anyone here (with a flat-sided plinth) actually ordered one yet?
If you go to the Linn website, then LP12 pages, you can see that Akurate option is now pictured with fluted plinth.
Click on any of the options - Klimax - Akurate - Majik - “learn more”, then page down to “tech’ spec’ and specifically “plinth options”. For each of the three levels they offer “standard or fluted” as an option.
Linn have been running a campaign across their social media in recent days, with images of LP12 fluted plinth. Some nice photography to study on their Instagram.
Linn social media confirmed (that’s messaging back and forth) fluted plinth now available for customers, with several wood finishes available. Alas, not Afromosia, (as its now an endangered species). Also, separately confirmed by local dealer, with RRP of standard £623 and fluted £838. So just £200 more for the extra wood working involved for fluting.
No doubt, any local Linn LP12 specialist should be able to advice further.
Hope all that helps?

p.s. Recent marcomm from Linn all very clever. No doubt timed to divert some attention away from other TT hype going on in the market place right now.
Thanks R, that’s helpful. I’m a tad disappointed that they didn’t also reintroduce the black staining for the inward sloping lowest panel beneath the flutes. IMO that enhanced the attraction of the originals. It helps the fluted section look more balanced and symmetrical and makes the depth dimension look slimmer.
If we’re speaking of the same Ray (Mr Horn), he has retired, sadly. Paul is still there, and is running a stealth operation to put together an LP12 as a surprise gift for my son.
I can’t recall Ray’s last name. He did all the LP12 work? Lived somewhere out on the coast? Lovely guy. If it’s the same Ray, I last spoke to him early this/last year (jeez…brain fog! I’ll have to look up the paperwork) when he fitted my Kandid. My very best wishes to him if he’s retired… I’ll miss him.
He’s retired a little too early for me, as I’m about to have a new cartridge fitted to my LP12, which Ray looked after for me for over thirty years. Paul has now taken over Ray’s LP12 duties.
Well, good for Ray…I wish I’d got to say goodbye, and thank him. I’ll drop a card off to Paul, hope he could send it on to Ray for me. I’ll miss our chats in the workroom.
Dammit, I was looking forward to having my new fluted plinth fitted by Ray, when I get round to ordering it. He was/is one of the best.
As mentioned elsewhere, Grahams are putting together a lovely (as new) S/H LP12 for me as a present for my son, and Paul will be doing the fitting. Difficult shoes for Paul to step into, but I have every confidence that he’ll be up to the challenge.
