Speaker jumpers

Would be interesting to hear if this improves the 808. I have mine in stock mode, bars, std jumpers, no isolation feet and KS1 cables to match the internal wiring on mine. Not played about yet with different jumpers etc. wonder if KS1 jumpers would bring anything to the party. Not sure who makes the ones on mine, Chord maybe? They look the same as in the picture with the SL cables replacing the bars.

Since starting the thread, I’ve managed to source a set of Superlumina jumpers. But, alas, there were hiccups with getting the payment through and now they seem to be delayed in arriving here from Canada, so I’m yet to get them into the system. Really looking forward to them, I’m currently using NAC A5 for jumpers, which did lift the game considerably for wham and solidity over the stock Totem connecting wires.

When we replaced NAC A5 jumpers on our ATC SCM19 speakers with the standard ATC supplied bars, we couldn’t hear any difference. That’s just us, in our our room and our system of course so YMMV.

I have always wondered……what if one could replace the wiring inside the speakers as well?

Yes, I’ve read some interesting comments about that on some other forums. The main idea seems to be to minimise the number of times there is a change in wire type and minimise the number of connection points. Though that is counter to the idea of separate electronic boxes that require more cables and connections!

I did ask once at a PMC demo after they handed round the crossover of their flagship Fenestria speakers. They seemed a bit miffed when i pointed out the cabling looked pretty ordinary for a £60 k speaker.

I don’t know, Nigel. They certainly appear to be more substantial than KS-1, although I’ve never seen KS-1 in the flesh.

Kudos have made it possible to have the same cable outside as they wire within.
Kudos KS-1
More than happy with mine. :+1:t2:

The large majority of wire inside a speaker is voice coil wire.
I doubt many people would suggest connecting an amp to speakers with voice coil wire is a good idea.

Kudos Speakers are now internally wired with KS-1
They used to be wired with a twin core and double insulated Chord cable but now their own.

It’s interesting that in the photograph of the Kudos Titan 808s, shown above, the cables from the amplifier are plugged into the upper enclosure. This is how mine were plugged in when installed. However, the online version of the instructions on the Kudos website shows the cables plugged into the lower enclosure. Have any 808 owners compared the two options?

I know - because I asked - that the supplied jumpers on Wilson Benesch are the same cable as used internally. Sounds good enough for/to me.

I have Chord Odyssey amp to speakers, stripped out Odyssey to the bass crossover & on to the bass units, Rumour (Odyssey’s baby brother) to midrange & tweeter crossover & on to the units.
Does it sound better?? , who knows its the way I wired them from new.
However if you think about the random wires in & out of capacitors & resisters, the not insignificant lengths of wire in the inductors, the connections through the binding posts, the solder joints …
… ooo me 'ead 'urts.

Good on you Mike………unfortunately beyond my skills.

Plus one.

And the PCB tracks, if the crossover is PCB mounted.

No PCB tracks for me, my x-over is hard wired.

It’s a pity the sets of terminals are so far apart as I would prefer as I stated a while ago on here that the the best way I was explained by a speaker designer was to in a multi socket arrangement in passive mode have positive to the high frequency unit and the negative to the bass unit.
That way the current flows an identical distance and direction and enables EMF to be more easily sunk back into the amp.
It would be the equivalent of option 3 on the diagrams that were so kindly put up previously.

Which is exactly how WB recommend their speakers be connected when single-amped.

I recall Derek from Kudos recommended terminating the speaker cable into the bottom cabinet but I think a lot of users on here use the top enclosure.

I preferred the bottom but it’s been a few years now and quite a few changes so will try the top again at some point.

Unfortunately I can’t try that with Super Lumina cable as the two cables are bound together by a block just a couple of inches from the back of the plugs. However, I will try plugging them both into the lower sockets just for fun.
