Spotify lossless is finally happening in October

An UnitiLite will never support the lossless option though.

Ah bummer :frowning:

Me too. Been with them since 2007. Even tried logging out and back in again. Not fair :joy:

I got it today (Swede) without being notified in the app! It worked right away with my Qube by changing audio quality settings in the Spotify app, but the option is not available for my Nova. Running the latest firmware on both Nova and Qube. Anyone with the same issue?

The option for lossless appeared yesterday, I’m based in East Yorkshire. Not had the chance to give it a spin yet.

No lossless option available here yet.

Good news - all other members of my Spotify Family account now have lossless.
Bad news - I don’t !

This is reported by quite a few people on the Spotify forums. I wouldn’t mind - but I pay !!!

Even though got lossless yesterday I just got the popup now. Like that it does take you to setting page to give you option to make the changes. Otherwise some would think automatically changed.

How is this not available to everyone at the same time? Apple doesn’t randomly rollout iOS updates at different times. Why is this any different??

A video on YouTube suggests that Spotify Lossless isn’t bit-perfect, unlike Qobuz, Tidal etc. That doesn’t sound so good. I won’t link to it as I’m not sure it’s allowed.

It’s standard practice for updates to be released in a staggered way like this, and Apple’s are no exception. If every device in use tried to download it at the same time their servers would crash and chaos would ensue.

I already called out that video for being misleading. He trying to make another MQA type of gotcha video. Acts like Spotify isn’t delivering honest lossless quality files. The issue isn’t unique to just Spotify. They haven’t updated their windows desktop version to include exclusive mode. That’s all that’s happening here. This is same as Apple Music and Amazon. So don’t get bit perfect. At least not yet.

He also mentions Android upsampling to 48k but it’s is done for all music streaming apps on Android, so it’s not a Spotify issue.

And I can’t speak to the fact his streamers of choice don’t have latest Spotify firmware when Naim had it for over 18 months. The guy works for headphones.com. At the very least he could have used one that worked and verified bit perfect lossless.

Anyway, if using 2nd gen Naim streamers and most other major streamers should have true lossless. If using on an iPhone or Mac, the same. Believe most people have gotten their lossless update by now.

And when I watch the video I wanted to ditch Spotify as well until half way thru video realized what he was trying to do. Goes on and on about these test but doesn’t give the why until after. Just felt like was trying to be a Spotify take down video than honest video about lossless update.

Snap. My daughter got the message on her iPhone and now has lossless. I pay the bill and I’m still waiting. :sob:

I’ve now got Lossless and have changed the quality in the Spotify app accordingly.
When I stream to my iphone, I see the following that confirms the quality is Lossless:

However, when I stream to a Naim Mu-so 2 via Spotify Connect, I get the following:

When I tap on ‘Change quality settings ‘, Lossless is greyed out.

Does anyone know what’s going wrong here?

Have you tried the log out/log in process as detailed in the sticky thread and in my post above?

Thanks Richard. Will try that.

sure, Apple’s iOS releases are staggered by hours. Not by weeks.

I suspect some marketing buzz will be involved - similar to the old days when you had to get an invite for access to new products/services.

Richard. It’s not giving me the option in the Spotify app yet. I assume the log out, log in process won’t work until it does, and only then if my gen 2 streamers are ‘refusing’ to play / acknowledge lossless

This is actually quite annoying. I pay the bill and I’m the only member of my family likely to use lossless, yet I am the only one who hasn’t got it yet. It’s been a bad week for things breaking (petrol lawnmower, in pipe for our water tank - causing a leak that had water dripping through the ceiling - and even my electric shaver) or not working as they should. I think I’ll go to bed for the rest of the week. Wake me up on Monday.
