I’ve been checking now and again over the last week or so and no lossless until this morning. I did kill all the open apps today (on my iphone) and when I used Spotify again after that lossless was available, (the last app update was over the weekend but it wasn’t available immediately after that). Might be worth a try if you haven’t already.
Reading your post I thought it was interesting lossless didn’t appear to have been enabled by account as its not showing available for both you and your daughter so being curiuos I checked my mac app which I hardly use and no lossless available. With a little digging I found an update was available and after that lossless was there, but it took a minute or two to appear after going in the settings.
Anyway it’s all rather academic for us as the 272 wont be able to utilise it sadly. It wasn’t a surprise but still disappointing. So next challenge is to try and get the lossless Spotify into the 272 hopefully without more boxes or significant expense. While we’re not currently big users of Spotify it would be nice to be able to try the higher quality.
Just contacted Spotify to ask why all my family members had the lossless audio option but I did not. Their reply was ‘blah, blah, more blah and still more blah’. Pointless.
Well they did only promise lossless thru October and it was already mentioned family accounts don’t matter. Rolling out randomly to individuals even if on family plan.
My son had an original premium account for past 2 years so just converted that over to family plan. Then added my wife and then myself last. I got the update first, then my wife, and he didn’t get until next day even though account technically is under him.
Spotify lossless showed up today for me. It works just fine connecting to my Nova. Lossless is confrimed on the Nova diagnostic page.
Multiroom the Spotify Nova stream to my Muso 1 via the naim app works too.
When I first got Spotify lossless I realized it was available on two Apple devices but not a third. The device without lossless had an older version of the Spotify app. I updated the version and the lossless option appeared.
I was talking to another Spotify user who did not get lossless until he updated his Apple iOS. FWIW.
Even though rollout is server based, still need latest software to even be able to trigger it. When Apple does updates, believe it’s all just software based, which is why no rollout is needed.
I just checked my IPhone and the Lossless option is there, so I turned it on. I live in Canada by the way. I am only getting Bluetooth to my AirPods Pro since I am at work. Can’t wait to try it at home tonight.
You do likely need to upgrade the firmware, but a note of caution. There are several long discussions here about the change in SQ with this later firmware. Whilst it provides a new radio service, and is likely needed for Spotty Lossless (Naim should be able to advise) you might not like the change in sound.
Thanks MrFixit.
I’d read that thread and chose not to upgrade the firmware, but like you say, it may be needed for Spotify lossless. It’s a tough choice, and no going back afterwards! Decisions, decisions…
Naim ought to be able to advise. I’m sure I read that they have been ready for Spotify Lossless for 18 months. But only they will know in which release this is.
Really.. with a bit of kit of that value, a user should not have to make that choice.
Unbelievable situation. My cheap Wiim Ultra was ready and waiting for Spotty Lossless.. and sounds great.
If anyone else has Spotify Premium Family (with a spare slot) and is still waiting - use an old email address and invite your dog/other pet/imaginary friend etc. I did this last night and, like magic, Lossless appeared.
This is how ridiculous the Spotify Lossless rollout has become.
It has been a sub optimal process. I expressed the same sentiment in more colourful language yesterday when I realised that everyone else in my family premium account had lossless except me, the bill payer and the only one remotely interested in it.
Anyway, I now have it. When I played my first track, there was no lossless green bar alongside the device name. I went through various hoops thinking that the problem was with my ND5XS2, only to discover that the track I was playing (from John Lee Hookers album, Boom Boom) was not available in lossless format. The max resolution was 320kbs. Is John Lee Hooker’s catalogue so niche, so obscure that it doesn’t deserve the lossless treatment? Not even CD resolution? It’s CD resolution on Qobuz as standard. Suffice it to say, it was a bad start.
I will continue to try it out over the next couple of weeks but at the moment, I can’t see myself giving up my Qobuz subscription.
Qobuz are clearly worried about it (see the recent offer of a 3 year subscription) and I hope that the advent of Spotify lossless doesn’t put them out of business.
For those who owns a Linn DS/DSM streamer, you can try lossless Spotify via Airplay, it can play at 44.1/16, and see what you find. I find the SQ exceeds my expectation, it sounds better than hires Qobuz for some albums.
If I were in the Roon and/or Qobuz business, I would be very worried.
No. I did log out and back in. That may have cleared the cache. In any event it didn’t help with he JLH track. All the others I’ve tried have been ‘lossless’. I did check via the IP address suggestion earlier in this thread.
