That set up suggests there is no Mrs Rafael
… or a very special wife.
They really liked the apartment we were in previously, also with tiled floor but solid walls. I’m not concerned about the tiles, more the plasterboard in the new place. The NBLs get their chance but we’re keeping the apartment for now so they’ll have a home and a 250 to keep them company if they they don’t work out here. I have a home demo of something unusual lined up once I’ve found out the best the NBLs can give but I’ll save that for later.
I perhaps should add that I’ve used Herbie’s small gliders under the spikes on tiled floors. Initially when I had Thiels in the flat they were to try and spare myself complaints from the downstairs neighbour but they make speaker positioning so easy I’ve used them ever since. I bought another set for the new place and can confirm that they need around a month to bed in, with both the Thiels and the allaes that suffered a set from new sounding harsh to begin with.
That’s what I thought when I saw it for sale, the arm was a surprise, I was planning to transfer my Aro but as it was Frank Schröder’s demo deck he offered a quick turn around on a Reference arm to go with it.
I’ve just adjusted the screw tension on the counterweight and cartridge mount today, an adjustment that is vital to getting an SPU Royal N to play rock convincingly and am enjoying a bit of Greasy Truckers, Man at their finest.
nice geode!
What a Niice carpet you have there
Following a house move 2 years ago (moved and the sound collapsed) it’s been a 2 year journey to get the right speakers that integrate with my room (fortunately it’s a dedicated room so had the freedom to do what I wanted.)
A bit of treatment and the active ATC 40’s (tried the 50’s but they were too much for the room) seem to do the trick. All other speakers I tried were an epic fail - PMC, Kudos, Focal. Despite being good speakers.
I think that looks fantastic, hope it sounds just as good, enjoy!
I haven’t posted anything in ages do here goes. This is my system in what is our 4th bedroom, very small but it’s my little dedicated space. Linn Kans are perfect size for this small room and sound fab. The dream is to get a pair of isobariks in here, what do you guys think, room to small?
I don’t know about Isobariks but those record racks will be playing havoc with the sound from the right speaker.
Look very neat & nice.
Btw what is the room dimensions?
The room is just under 5m long and c4m wide narrowing to 3.5m wide - it has been a devil getting it all to work!
I asked this, because you mentioned that the 50 did not work well in this space.
What was wrong?
They just didn’t integrate with the room as well - bass much sweeter with the 40’s. It was like the 50’s just put too much energy into the room. Really wanted to like the 50’s and they are clearly a better speaker given they are twice the price of the 40’s but the 40’s were miles better in my room…. Just goes to show you it’s all about matching speakers with room!
Lovely space, I really like that room and set up.
