System Pics 2022

It sounds ok as I sit very nearfield, just so stuck for space. What if I moved the record rack nearest the right speaker and put it between the speakers?

Fantastic- glad it all worked out in the end. Lovely room and system Gary.

Really nice room Gary, hope when we move i can do something similar👍

I’m going to ask 2 ignorant questions - what speakers are those, and what is that mirror-backed enclosure?

Love the fireplace - how does it work with a mirrored back - that was what threw me - would make a very cool terrarium!

The mirrored back has the flame effect when its turned on (its electric)… I’ll do a pic when its dark outside if you like as it is quite impressive.

It’s always worth trying. Few of us have the perfect space.

I’m going to try it out.

Please do - it is a lovely feature in a lovely room.

I was discussing speakers and room size with a long established Naim dealer last year, and he mentioned that Naim had trouble getting Isobariks to sound right in their relatively large demo room, where Kans sounded great, but that he had fantastic results from Isobariks at home in a 12 x 13 foot room.
All rooms are different of course, but you might just find that Isobariks work for you too.

Thats very encouraging, only a pipe dream at the moment I’m afraid. I’ve just moved my record rack nearest to the right hand speaker into the middle between the speakers. Will have a listen tonight,I have a feeling hungry halibut might be right about this.

It’s good to experiment and I suspect not blocking the speaker and causing reflections will make things sound more together. Re the Isobariks, I wouldn’t go near them with less than a 52/250 and top notch sources. Your UnitiLite and 180 is nowhere near sufficient. That’s not a criticism, merely a reminder of system balance. You may want to look at a used 272. It’s miles better than the Lite and they are not expensive. I can imagine the 272/180 and Kans would be rather good; a 272/250 even better.

I hope this gives you an idea of how it looks when on

Looks like a great listening space. Well done finding the right components FC. Some rooms can be very challenging, especially if you have the means to buy more than the room can handle. Knowing where to stop is a real skill. Glad you found what worked in the space.

I should have updated my profile, for the last couple of years I’ve been running my Kans with 72/HiCap/180 combo. If I went for Isobariks I might get away with just changing out the power amp to a 250. Current combo works very well with Kans.

Try a 250 on the Kans and you may well forget about the Isobariks.

Thanks. I believe you live in the Netherlands - it’s a Moooi carpet by Marcel Wanders.

 The double i in Niice was no type-o. It looks great!

I ran 32.5/Hc/250 into Kans in the late 80’s in a room about 13’ x 11’. I then changed to Isobariks and it was a totally different experience. They did work in the relatively small room but if I’m honest it could be a bit overwhelming. I then changed to active Briks and that brought back some of the speed and openness of the Kans. The Kans will love a 250 up them!
