System Pics 2022

Just realised that the lateral arm weight is missing and I don’t recall ever having one. Is it really required as the deck sounds OK as is?

Tim

It’s not my thread; I don’t care.

Nice set up
Only thing for me is my OCD is going mad over the end grain wood block not matching the rest

I made them myself, but the design is ‘borrowed’ from HiFi Racks.

I couldn’t agree more, it’s driving me mad! I have a solution in the offing, just need to find the time to actually sort it. I can’t wait much longer though

Picture of a superuniti2 next to a nap200? Front or back? What do u need to see and why?

Will it be to see where the button is to disconnect the power amp of the Superuniti…?

I must admit that there are no where near enough system pics in this thread these days. Not sure who’s taking care of that….

True but you can only photograph your system so many times.

It’s up to members to post pictures here. Obviously there will be some chat and banter along the way. So long as it doesn’t dominate the thread then I’m OK with it.

This being the System Pics thread, here’s an old picture I found of the insides of my very early NAC12:

Gee not a lot of bang for your bucks, looks like it’s half finished.

Got a second system up and running. Some small bookshelf speakers (diy of course) perched atop some dodgy old stands that a friend gave me. A Nait 5si hooked up to an Apple airport express via the analogue output. Which, by the way, is surprisingly good. So much so that I have no intention of changing it. I found a review by someone called Ken Rockwell. He measured it and said that it was actually really good as a stand alone DAC. Really enjoying having another spot to listen to music. It sounds Great. I have a new found love for the 5si. Seems to work really well with these speakers.

The room doubles as my wife’s office from time to time. Desk not in view. The chairs were her choice.

Listening to a bit of muddy waters. Dynamic bliss.

Still going Richard ?

My first naim preamp was the 12S

I can’t quite remember did it come in the bolt down? It was in 1980 from memory

Bevo

You can do that in the settings menu.

Still going strong and now sporting an ALPS Blue volume pot.

The NAC12 was always and only available in bolt-down form and survived in the range even after the NAC32 was introduced in 1977. When the NAC32 was re-engineered into the extruded case in 1980 the NAC12 was finally discontinued. Initially the NAC12 casework was just plain flat panels fastened together with little L brackets (as per my own example above), later it had extruded side panels. From the outside they look almost the same save for the give-away extra bolts on the earliest units.

Another couple of shots:

What a fountain of knowledge you are Richard , thanks for that

First naim gear was the nac12s/snaps/160 driving gale 401 speakers , and of course the LP12/grace/supex front end

What a wonderful journey it has been

I still think Richard would be the perfect person to write an official Naim history book.

Right on Stuart - how do we bribe him ?:crazy_face::crazy_face:

Or rather motivate him

No idea! Obviously JV is no longer with us but many of his contemporaries at Naim are, and can be interviewed for insights on design of the classic products. The sooner the better I would have thought. In my mind a heavyweight book with quality paper and packed with images. I would happily preorder to make the project viable if needed.
