It’s because they slope backwards. Any angle other than straight ahead or from the side makes them look wonky.
Those SCM40 s are lovely speakers. I am looking to upgrade and have my eye on a pair. How do they perform at low volumes?
Very clear and detailed, I tend to listen to BBC Radio 6 some of the day at a lowish volume. They and the system do come more to life as the volume goes up. At the moment I am listening to a rip at a fairly low volume as I edit some photos and browse the net so not in an ideal sitting position but they still sound good in my room. Personally for the money, I think they are very hard to better, if they suit your room.
I changed from a Troika to a Krystal and said goodbye to the Krystal after a couple of months and went for a Kandid and am very happy with it. I preferred the Troika to the Krystal.
The Troika and k-boards are a perfect match and sounds absolutely fabulous. I’ve never heard a Krystal but I had exactly the same reaction with a Klyde and went for an Akiva
There is a loud echo here except I had two faulty Krystal’s but the comment is very true it was no Troika.
Kandid now on duty different world.
it’s the top one? Looks nice. Congrats!
I have scm40s passive they are very detailed especially in the midrange with a tight fast bass. I have them positioned 900 mm from tweeter to back wall about 2300 mm apart. They really shine when you turn the volume up not excessively loud though.
I would recommend a powerful amplifier to drive them well. Highly recommended
Not bought it…….just listening……tried it out versus the Innuos Statement with the new Sean Jacobs power supply. At Audio show east recently the Kudos room used the Innuos Statement……but could not really get a feel for its impact. As ever Signals picked up on my interest and its not there usual stock Innuos server, they held it back……for a few weeks until i could listen. I listened with my wife for an hour or so……they are both excellent. My wife preferred the Innuos and i preferred the Melco………the decider for a home demo……the Innuos price tag at almost £6K
more. The Innuos has a great user interface……Melco poor….at home now to see if its that much better than my Melco N10.
The Signals demo was using both servers via lan into a Phoenixnet, Statement amps and Dynaudio confidence 50 or 60,s.
@MichaelF you are a bad boy😉
Only £6 price difference?
Good catch……wife might have bought it😂
Edited, thx
Finally figured things out to go to my desired system. Nd555, NAP500/NAC552 and 801D4s. P10 retained as vinyl source.
555 and 801s were ex demo, 500/552 second hand. A very handy price delta all round to new.
Sounds immense. Greg Porter playing currently. Although the Eagle eyed will probably be able to see Massive Attack on the ND555.
Nice system, the 801s will sing. Have fun
I was looking at the Krystal when I wanted to replace my Troika but there were a few reports of broken cantilevers at the time which put me off. I ended up with a DV Karat 17D3 which blew me away. If I ever replace this one it will be with another DV.
I have been living with mine for a couple of months now and enjoy it every day. It is certainly up there with the best digital sources when coupled with the ND555. I am looking forward to your thoughts after listening.
You dodged a bullet there.
I remember the broken cantilever stories and I believe this was blamed on using SPT or similar.
Mine were both faulty internally and never got to the stage of being cleaned.
I’ll be interested to hear how it compares with the N10 (I have an N10/2). No seperate power supply though?
I have come to realize that with streaming, the user interface is easily as important as the SQ.
Does anyone know of a way to find out more about these software/firmware apps from various brands? A good hardware device could be ruined by a lousy interface, especially if nobody buys it because the interface sucks and it gets discontinued.
As far as the Melco goes it works seamlessly with the Naim app and I have encountered no issues whatsoever now that various firmware updates to the ND555 and Naim app have been implemented. Melco also publish a firmware history on they website and as soon as a new version is released it appears both on the website and the system update tool on the N1/N10/N100 etc.
Sorry we have drifted off the thread here which is for system pics… perhaps we need a new thread for Melco N1/N10?
