System Pics 2023

Indeed you have a wayward spike!

Looks like two, one on each fraim.

Yeah thatā€™s not right is it! :face_with_peeking_eye:

I did wonder if a roomba would get under the cables? But your idea is much more fun and I think it could be turned into a completion with two or more cars.

Iā€™m sure sjb must be able to hear that two of the spikes are misaligned?
If notā€¦ thenā€¦

Mario Kart Live on Nintendo Switch perhaps?

Yes somethingā€™s seriously wrong there. The one on the right looks millimeters from crashing down. @Sloop_John_B Looks dangerous.

Rather embarrassing!

Mental note to check everything is still level when top fraim is addedā€¦ā€¦ and to take more bloominā€™ care.

Rather ironic to think I started a thread about this!

Take 2 as they say

In take two, I think you may have the front left extrusion on the second shelf down installed the wrong way up - it doesnā€™t align with the shelf.

Take 3, ACTION!

Youā€™re right but I think Iā€™ll leave that until Iā€™m doing this again in 2028!

Prescient I was though

Happy New Year everyone!

2022 was a difficult year for me, that resulted in several rounds of retail therapy, and my system has grown a lot from the SuperNait 3 and ND5 XS 2 I started the year with.

First addition was the nDAC, a lovely upgrade fed from the streaming section of the ND5, I was surprised by the difference it made, both the amount of extra detail it retrieved and itā€™s tone.

Next was the addition of a power supply for the nDAC followed by a HiCap for the SN3, both made significant improvements but most immediately apparent on the nDAC ā€¦ wow!

I was extremely happy with the system at this point and spent several months thoroughly enjoying it with no real plans apart from speakers to go further. Felt like a really nice sweet spot to be at.

However, as seems common here, an opportunity for a pre-loved 282 from a dealer came up and curiosity got the better of me. HiCap was moved from the SN3 to the 282 (later replaced with a different one) and the SN3 used in power amp mode. As many on here have experienced this was a significant move to say the least!

The SN3 is really great in power amp mode, but it seemed a bit of a waste so the inevitable happened and a 250DR took on the role, another pre-loved box from a dealer. This wasnā€™t for me such an immediately apparent upgrade as the nDAC and 282, was more subtle and it wasnā€™t until I swapped the SN3 back in after a month or so I really felt the extra punch and pace the 250 brings. Needless to say itā€™s stayed!

Last change which I finished last week is a pair of Troels Gravesen Illuminator 71 speakers, as the name suggests these use drivers from the ScanSpeak Illuminator range (wonderful pieces of engineering) and high quality crossover components. Iā€™m incredibly pleased with their sound, even though theyā€™re not really run in yet, and on temporary stands. Such a rewarding experience, Iā€™ll be resuming my previous build once Iā€™ve enjoyed these for a while.

Iā€™ve really enjoyed experiencing each of the upgrades Iā€™ve done over the past year, itā€™s been interesting and I feel Iā€™ve learnt a lot. Iā€™m tempted to run through the upgrades again with the new speakers, particularly the SN3 setup.

Cheers,
Mark

PS @Richard.Dane Would it be possible to reopen my ā€œSpeaker Build - CNO Grandeā€ topic please?

Its ok maybe as a dedicated roomā€¦but agree do not like over powering a lounge. I have banned giant tvā€™s in our loungeā€¦instead we have a small media area ā€¦ nearbyā€¦I like the lounge to be relaxingā€¦

Those SL2s look amazingly close to the wall. I canā€™t manage less than about 10cm without the NACA5 cables coming out of the PXOs to the tweeters touching the wall. Did you do anything special to get them closer to the wall

That was Andy from Signals who set them up and I donā€™t dare do anything to them other than bless them with holy water every first Friday.

Could you maybe show a picture of the PXOs
I would be interested to see the output cables. I will do the same

The tweeter arms have a nice low damping springing action with the NACA5 not touching the wall. I have the impression itā€™s best to get them off the wall a bit otherwise the sound hardens up a bit and you lose that airyness (if thatā€™s the right word) and space
