Got the impression today that Naim will let the NDX2 fall off its perch and let the new 300 streamer take over. Would not consider paying full price myself?
Get rid of the sub.
Not needed at all just enjoy the detail.
I was pleasantly surprised by what REL can add to the sound. I found the guidance on their website useful, especially regarding placement as the shop were not interested in helping. Good that Basically Sound were on hand to advise.
I wanted to try moving the REL inside my speakers, angled across the room; however, in my situation, that meant the left hand speaker was too close to wall. In the end I just angled the REL across the room. Great fun experimenting - hope it works for you. Also the guys at REL were very helpful, in consultation with Naim, in recommending the appropriate model and connections. Hope you enjoy the experience.
Mine is on a shelf below the LP12. Itās an awkward bloody shape.
Fortunately, the way I designed the bespoke Turntable rack, the top deck where the TT sits has plenty of space behind for the SMPS to sit in a totally inconspicuous place. More luck than judgement to be fair
Sounds promising sounds intriguing. Which input on the Rel are you using and where is it fed from?
Helpful!
Itās fed from the back of the speakers, yellow on left positive, red on right positive & black on right negative to the High Level input.
So thatās how itās done. Iāve been scratching my head about that. . Thanks for the info. Iāll get round to trying my sub some time but look forward to your report shortly.
Great guy Tony, are you local? Iām in Shipdham a whole 8 minutes away from the shop. Very dangerous having a dealer that close!
Fortunately itās a whole hour for meš
First time I see how wonderful view you have from the living room. Whaouh !
Just looked up Whangerai on Apple Maps.
What an amazing place that must be to live.
My father lived in Kerikeri, a bit further north. We absolutely plan to return for another visit some day.
UPDATE
The Rel T5 and NDX2 have both been running on radio for the last couple of days.
I have moved the Rel back behind the axis of the Keilidhās and made a slight adjustment to their position. 30cmās further apart and just a hint of toe in.
Now running my standard demo playlist to see where we stand.
First track (Paul Simon - Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes) sounded very nice indeed, as is track 2, Holst- Jupiter, from Sir Adrian Boultās version of The Planetsš
EDIT
Just had a major WOW moment on the finale of Jupiter with the Timpani & Hornsš®
I think in all the years I had Keilidhs and all the ones I set up in the dem room for customers, I never once saw a pair firing straight ahead. They always liked a good bit of toe-in.
I really wish I still had them. At the time, they paid for an airplane ticket to emigrate overseas when I was young a very (very very) poor. The same money nearly 30 years later equals two weekly grocery shops.
Mine were in Rosenut.
These are my originals, bought nearly 30 years ago.
Recently serviced crossovers and new Scanspeak tweeters, I do believe theyāll still be here in another 30š
The only problem I found with them of late was they lacked punch in the lower registers. The addition of a single Rel T5/x Sub seems to have remedied that very nicely.
I wonder how a pair would sound off the back of the HiCapā¦?
Must listen to it again.
They donāt get punch unless driven active IIRC. But a great speaker regardless.
Problem with going active FZ and the reason that I never have, is I have to use Linn Amps. Originally because they were just too expensive and latterly because I wasnāt really interested in a 6 amp solution.
This Rel addition really does seem to be ticking all the boxes and I havenāt even started to think about twiddling with the settings yet. It was set up by Tony on Saturday in about 10-15 minutes and I havenāt done anything to change those, except to move itās position a little.
