You could Stain them assuming they don’t already have a finish on them. Paint them. Maybe get them vinyl wrapped. Cover them in leather.
I love your room! Do you use the in-wall fronts for movies or the Ovators?
Very nice room. Top 3… I’d probably try pulling the speakers out a bit.
@el_soldado . Thanks very much. There are 2 separate systems in the room. The Cambridge cxr120 receiver powers the in wall and the in ceiling speakers and subwoofer for the AV system.
The naim system is connected to a modem and uniticore, which are in a different room, via 30m of cat5 cable for streaming hifi.
@opus Thanks very much. Currently at your suggestion I am experimenting with pulling the speakers out from 18 to 28cm from wall. Will be interesting as they have not moved in 6 years.
For me living in Northern Europe it looks quite exotic when you see what kind of vegetation you have outside your window, it’s the kind of vegetation we can only have indoors.
Any thoughts on going to the new classic 222 preamp/streamer IDAK ?
@Bevo Yes indeed. I would love to try the 222, but at this stsge there are not the type 2 and type 5 adapter cables in NZ It should sound good powered via the new Y shaped burndy from the 555dr.
Thus current system, however , really sounds fantastic. The only fly in the ointment is that the streamer of the 272 is getting glitchy, which drives me nuts.
So it will be either the new 222 or some variant of the Linn Selekt streamer. The 222 would be cheaper and would mean I get the benefit of the oomph from the 555dr. The only issue is the naim dealer is 600km away. The Linn dealer Chris Murphy( A St Bernard’s Lower Hutt old boy like myself) is 20 minutes away and I would get impeccable installation and after sales service if I chose that option. I cannot speak highly enough of Chris and his team at the Real Music Company in Wellington who have sadly lost the naim franchise.
@Bjorn we are blessed with a temperate maritime climate in Wellington in which the native Flax, Grisselina and Puka thrive year round. I am also lucky to have Mrs Idak who has green thumbs, to supervise the planting by myself aka the garden slave!
Can’t one use the Linn Selekt with the 555DR?
Yes Chris is a really decent gent met him a couple of times here in Sydney, his knowledge base on all thing Naim is incredible
Pity what has transpired
Sadly I do not think so. The Linn boxes don’t seem to need a massive power supply to sound their best.
Well, after 3 hours I just love how they sound. More upfront and “ live”. Thanks
Great set up and love the room.
Sounds like you’ve got some serious thinking. Have you heard the Linn at home, it gets mixed reviews here but I sometimes think it’s prejudice it is a Naim forum.
How long will you have to wait for the cables?
IDAK , Good Naim customer service should be that the retailer either jumps on a plane with the 222 and installs it for you and/or drives the 600 kms. It’s not as if they have have skinny profit margins at the new classic prices.
I know my Naim dealer is known to have driven to other states here in Australia with Naim gear and even has been known to service customers in far north West Australia in past years
Now that is dedication
Extra ‘like’ for the beer selection!
The MK2 version of the OB project.
Long story short, I was going to paint them but decided to reduce their size a little - the sides were fine but I took too much from the top so new l baffles were needed.
I bought 2 sheets of 18mm MDF to make new baffles to the revised smaller size (determined by the existing frame behind) but while shopping, I found wood-effect self adhesive flooring that I thought would be quite straightforward to fit () and would match our walnut themed room when we sort out the project this year.
Took longer than hoped but I’m pretty pleased with the results.
Hi Pete
I tried the Linn Selekt with a Katalyst DAC at about a $14000 configuration and it was very good indeed. It would replace the 272 and 555dr so would not be too expensive once those items are sold. It was much faster in operation with connecting to Tidal, my main source for music and the app was good. However I’ll keep my powder dry whilst I mull things over.
I did not sense that degree of dedication at the Auckland naim shop. When I asked about backup for technical assistance, a technician in Melbourne was mentioned. Who knows I may be wrong. The good thing is that the new naim streaming software seems to be very reliable and would not nearly be as glitchy as the 272.
