The Naim New Classic Range - Part 2

Absolutely. I think there are a great many forum members eagerly waiting to see if there is a 200 series integrated and streamer to go with it. But I think we will be holding our collective breath for a few months yet.

They could use the power amp of the 50, I guess

Looks like Iā€™m joining the NC party.
My dealer was at Munich and sent me a mail that Naim had a special offer on that week for dealer orders.
I was offered 15% discount so I ordered the 222 and 250.
Canā€™t waitā€¦.going to be a long couple of months!

Very early in the product lifecycle for a discount!

Wonder what this indicates about demand for NC on the continent, or in general. Too pricey, or just a launch discount to try and get it into stores/create a buzz?

With a 20% discount, so Ā£4500, the NC boxes would be a bit of a bargain.

Are you in Switzerland by any chance? @Csi_basel

Either an early insight into what sort of Mark-up there is to play with - while still turning in a sufficient profit - or a signal that the NC series is being phased out and superseded by the 300 series.

I think the fact that the cable connections are so different to the Classic line hurts sales as most dealers only demo the 222/300/250 as a combo.

My dealer just received the cables to connect to the NC to Classic. 5 months after launch.

Itā€™s limiting buyers to pretty much those who want both the 222/250 or all 3.

In my opinion, while the 222/300 is better than the 272/XPSDR it doesnā€™t show off what the NC250 can do.

I found the XPS didnā€™t do a lot for the 272, better than bare but not huge. Unlike the 555 which was a major league jump in SQ as youā€™d expect at that price point. Iā€™m curious what the 272/555 sounds like with a 250NC.

Yes, for products which have been in development for a long time you would think legacy cables would have been available at time of launch.

Are the stock xlr cables delivered with the NC nap250 shielded?

This is an amazing thread. I am new to Naim and the intensity of the views and speculation is really something to observe on new products. I have only 2 things to say after reading much of it - firstly Naim are one of a handful of firms that allow and encourage such an open discussion on their products and this is just fantastic - you buy Naim and you join a community. Secondly as a relatively new owner of an NDX2>SN3>Spendor A7ā€™s (all bought nearly new at good discounts because I canā€™t afford to buy them new) who will not be changing my system anytime soon, I am really delighted with this system but also delighted Naim continue to innovate and I am really surprised that anyone would suggest that Naim would release a new product for more money than the one it replaces without truly believing it is better - even worse judging it before they have even heard it and trying to argue that the DAC used is inferior.

Yes, of course! Although, in the context of the Australia insane pricing thread, there are some of us down here who are wondering whether anything will be credibly available to replace what we haveā€¦

I think to remember that nobody could say that the 222 is not really better vs the 272.
But however different opinions to say or experience the 222/300/250 as better or not vs NDX2/xpsdr/282/250 or Ndx2 bare/282/250 or even NDX2/xpsdr/252/300.

Completely agree - comparing the various combinations of the separates and considering the different price points there will be opinion on which is better. My point was that looking at a new single separate which has had the benefit of additional R&D that Naim would not release it having deliberately made it sound worse or using inferior components and charge more money as some have suggested.

If those really wrote that, I agree with you.

I do not know - but previous Naim XLR terminate cables were not.

Given the latest ones are a fully balanced connection, I see little or no need for shielding or screening.

Butā€¦ YMMVā€¦

Stevesky did comment on New Classic thread with his view on 222 compared to 272 but clearly has a vested interest :

That said I do agree the ultimate decision should always be yours :man_shrugging:.

Having moved on from a 272 to a Product with the 800 streaming board (NDX2) I can say that the streaming performance is what holds the 272 back. Itā€™s a decent pre.

Running NDX2 into a 272 gives a noticeable uplift in streaming quality, especially from internet sources such as Tidal.

I havenā€™t heard a 222 but just going by the fact is has the 800 board Iā€™d expect it to sound better than a 272 when streaming. The 222 also has all the other improvements such as newer DSP, revised volume control etc. Iā€™d be gobsmacked if it didnā€™t sound much better than a 272!
