What $6 million? To develop?
You missed the context from the thread above. Mr. Tate made reference to the Six million dollar man (TV show from the 70’s)
I read with interest the debate around the NC 250 against a NAP 300DR.
Sadly living here in Sunny Perth I haven’t any opportunity to do a comparison. However I have in the past occasionally been fortunate to evaluate a new Naim product line against an outgoing product line, (bolt down to CB).
I honestly thought the original CB 42/110 was better in MOST respects to a BD 12/160. Some clients disagreed. Some client’s also chose a CB 160 over a CB 250 based on their personal experience.
I bought a Classic NAP200 (non DR) in 2013 and thought it was superior to a recently serviced CB NAP 250. Looking at real prices the NAP200 was heaps cheaper than a CB NAP 250.
When the NAD 3020 came out it was very common to demo it against behemoth Accuphase amps showing it as the better amp in most areas that addressed the PRaT itch.
A lot of forum members prefer a Nait 1 to almost anything. Many prefer the 282 over the 252.
Opinions differ, we accept that. If the Musicraft dealer is strongly of the view that the NC 250 is a better amp than a NAP 300DR, thats fine by me. He lives the experience directly. And if he is correct thats brilliant, we get more bang for our buck. If others prefer a NAP 300 DR that’s brilliant too. They’re cheaper now so we get more bang for our buck also. Where is the downside?
Mayby reduced trade in values but that happens all the time. Naim aren’t the only company to introduce new models which outperform the outgoing range. Or outperform a more expensive competitor.
Arent you worried that when Elon Musk takes over the Naim Forum then all bots will be cancelled
The new 250 is a very good amp but on a Klimax DSM with OrganikDAC and LS3/5a:s I preferred both a 300 (the real one, without DR) and 135s over three days of listening at home.
No doubt there are combinations where a 250 may be better. But in this setup and with my ears it sounded lightweight.
Did you try movies and your PS5?
Your experience is closely aligned to what dealers are telling me off forum.
We’re very content we made the decision to go 300DR last year at a keen price. That decision was well informed although if we’d waited for 250NC I’m sure we would have been delighted.
Now saving for monoblocs and speaker upgrade. Maybe a 552. This will depend on how the economy performs!
Or maybe open a new thread : the classic range became not good enough for music. So it’s relegated now to movies and av set up.
Well good hifi has enormous benefits for movies! It’s at least half of it.
This thread is fast becoming the my opinions bigger than your opinion. There’s only so much one can say without others having the opportunity to check it out themselves.
I’ll be glad when the 300s are in dealers and we can all get to hear them and make up our own minds.
I feel sorry for the member @Musicraft, yes I know he is a dealer.
He comes on here and states his observations and opinions, then gets snide remarks. I do not usually see this, when a forum member gives his opinion. Let’s face it @Musicraft probably, has more experience with the 200 series and different permutations.
I believe he is only trying to help, why not just give the guy a break
I think it is the whole “I have a secret sauce that makes the NC boxes better but I am only going to tell you if you buy from me” thing that has some people riled. This forum is about sharing such ideas amongst like minded enthusiasts not a place to generate sales.
He certainly shares the same love for the brand with many of us.
“… any attempts by a member to promote their commercial interests will result in moderation and a ban.”?
just quoting!
@Musicraft is no ordinary member because he contradicts the core essence of the forum. He has repeatedly claimed that he has managed to surpass the 300DR with his own expertise using the NC250, yet he states he can only discloses this information to his customers. It is perfectly acceptable to assert that the NC250 outperforms the 300DR, but asserting the possession of a secret formula to enhance its performance, available only to customers, contradicts the very essence of this forum, which is to openly exchange our collective experiences.
Correct. However trade members are very welcome to post about Naim kit so long as there’s no blatant marketing or attempted solicitation of members.
I’m sure most Naim dealers of long standing value their own skills over others at set up and getting the best from Naim kit - that’s perfectly natural. No secret sauce required, just experience.
But this dealer is rubbing up members the wrong way……just saying
He is just stating his opinion he thinks the NC250 is better than the 300DR.
For some reason that gets everyone’s knickers in a bunch.
But……the only Naim dealer……to keep ramming it down peoples throats. Others dealers come on and have class.
Gazza, alternatively, could it just be about a dealer wishing to express their enthusiasm for the new kit?
I think the issue here is the wording mate, for example person number 1 might prefer a Nap200 over a 250 in their system. but if that person said…a 200 performs better than a 250 with/without some magic on the official forum i think people might have a bit to say about it. to be fair this is with reference to new classic stuff but i think my point above is still valid.
