Haha! Yes I. Mi love mi vindaloo, sag, onion bhaji…
I’ve got the munchies!
I have a fairly extensive collection of vinyl & CD from the Wackies label.
I have posted on the subject early on in the thread, the Wackies label has an unusual and unique sonic signature and could be regarded as a sub genre of it’s own.
This CD is currently on heavy rotation at Dread mansions.
Early Wackies production on the City Line label, named after the New York Subway that led to the Wackies Bronx basement studio and record shop.
Originally two vinyl LP’s both collected here Reggae Goodies Vol1 & 2 featuring Roots, Lovers and Dub styles from reasonably well known artists like Stranger Cole, African Brothers, Wayne Jarrett alongside more obscure artists like the wonderful Love Joys, Joe Morgan, KC White and the alarmingly named Jerry Hitler!
Well worth seeking out as is just about anything on the Wackies label
Perhaps the greatest Roots Reggae set of ALL TIME

@glevethan I’m not geared up for streaming currently. I have most on either CD or Vinyl but for the benefit of those that do please post to this thread any good streaming links for Wackies music, or any other good Reggae sounds for that matter.
Cheers
Perhaps both the finest Horace Andy & Wackies Production would be
Horace Andy Dancehall Style
Massive Attack fans will instantly recognise the original version of Spying Glass from this album.
Similarly Sugar Minott who had a long fruitful connection with Lloyd Bullwackie Barnes…
As I’ve said there really aren’t any duds in the catalogue its amazingly and consistently excellent. An entire thread could easily be devoted to the Wackies sound.
The three samplers are absolutely essential in my view, serving as superb compilation albums in their own right and as an introduction to the wonderful idiosyncratic world of the Wackies label.
The only problem with this thread during lockdown, is that I end up buying more music-several from recommendations here…
In 1982 he was booked to play the Liverpool Empire - large venue…
As they had only sold 50 tickets one of his roadies rang the local radio station pretending they were the Rolling Stones. 2000 people then bought tickets . I was there and like everyone else rather mystified when they came on stage!
I remember that story. I wasnt there but did see him on what if memory serves was the same tour at Brighton Top Rank backed by the Studio One band with Pablove Black.
One of those gigs/experience that stay indelibly etched into ones mind/soul
Essential, Classic and timeless Freddie McGregor album. His debut on Studio One early seventies.
