The Vintage Planes, Trains and Automobiles Picture Show

Some fine machines. Is that top one a replica or a real Cali? It’s the lack of armed guards and a security fence that leads me to ask!

Folland Gnat? If so, there’s an old YouTube clip of a Gnat doing amazingly low, low level flying if you are interested.

I would say replica, a very nice one

It looks it. It looks fantastic in the picture, to be fair.

There were about 80 cars on display, quite a lot of very nice Golf’s GTI’s etc, various Fords and a few original Mini’s.

I remember stopping in a layby when I was young to watch the RAs do a practice display at RAF
Little Rissington when they had Gnats. Probably early 70s? Maybe late 60s. Great memories.

Love that Mk 3 Rapier. Built a few Airfix versions back in the day.

The Mini is a lot like the 1960 one which I share with my brother.

Photo of where you can actually see the number plate, the car like yours was immaculate, manufactured in December 1959 and compared the the new BMW Mini, Tiny!

I had a Rapier IIIA convertable back in the late 60’s …
I bought it in sound but “in need” condition and with access to a pro level garage was able to refurb it over about 18 months, chassis & running gear o/haul, numerous engine tweeks, and a complete paint strip & body repair, plus internal trim & new hood.
This was during the mispent yoof times, it took me all over for gigs, London/Edinburgh/Manchester and all in between. Surfing in Devon/Cornwall, motor racing and motocross all over.
Only regret … I don’t have any decent photos. (also no pictures of my beloved Norton Dominator)
