Things I’ve done in the last 24 hours

Update….we gad a call from the Police this morning after looking at the footage……can we send our expert to take a USB download. Officer arrives, we were a little embarrassed we had allocated to the bottom of the airing cupboard, pvr, screen and all………but you will never need to use it?
Officer, thought it was much better position than the lofts, outbuildings they often get. Being a new system, nice and easy for them to use, quality video, this was a specialised officer that does this full time. We had to do nothing. We had sent off the relevant clip, they downloaded about 30 minutes more. Interestingly, the officer had a portable atomic clock to check against our system time signature. They said it would take 18 months approx for the case to reach court.

We recently installed cctv, per above. Our back gate was in bad repair and needed replacing. A local company was recommended and these were installed yesterday, very pleased.

Wow, what lovely gates. We are moving soon and I’d like something like that. Looks sturdy and well made without being OTT.

It was made from Iroko hardwood with a UV stabilised teak oil treatment…….not cheap.

Pulled /tweaked a hamstring , painful shin (nearly fell twice ) most likely my Maltese trip on Thursday will not happen this year, the idea of airports and falls frighten me

My holiday is now cancelled , nowhere near the pain of January to March

Sorry to hear, being away from home when things like health are not right is no fun. So possibly for the best?

The best things never are. It looks worth every penny though.

Interesting was i asked a neighbour who had done her gates. She got her husband out to tell me, he was very ill with bladder cancer. They had bought their gates from the same firm, but in softwood. They decided to ignore the advice on wood treatment, and 8 years later they had some rot. So when the guy measured up for my gates, he also went across to look at the rot. They asked him if he could repair and take back to the bare wood, at their own cost. Steve, from this firm said he would make a new set foc, you should still not had this problem so early. Still a few good people out there.
The husband, sadly died a few weeks back.

That’s a shame Ian, but you’ve been sensible.

Sad news.

I think many people don’t recognise that you need to attend to external wood of this nature every year, moreso any softwood items. Several people around me have had their gardens ‘done’, with new garden houses etc, but haven’t then undertaken regular maintenance post initial treatments/painting.

Exactly , I was going to the same hotel where I was incarcerated with Covid two years ago , and then got a (justified) major telling off from Mrs Houdini

Thanks Eoin, it’s not as bad as the pain in January , but I won’t lose any sleep about making the wrong decision. I might be able to reclaim some air miles .

best wishes

Ian

I’ve owned a Linn Klimax DSM for 7 weeks and Steve Ching from the Real Music Company in Wellington kindly came around for 2 hours to set up the room correction software on the Klimax. No microphone is used, the room has to be measured and window placement, door openings, wall type eg dry wall and floor composition are all entered into the Linn software programme. In addition my most used listening position and speaker placement all go in. The Linn had previously been told about my Ovator400s and via its “ Exakt” software had optimised speaker performance for that particular speaker
The measuring of the room was mainly done by me and I had given Steve the room dimensions on a plan I had done.
The space optimisation software is mainly about controlling frequencies below 80hz. Without the software activated the system sounds fantastic with great tight bass.
Steve did 3 space optimisation configurations which we named low, medium and high bass. There was very little bass on the low setting and a bit of bass overhang/resonance on the high bass setting . The medium bass setting seemed to closest to the software free bass I liked so much.
The good thing with the software is that you can easily switch between the settings and turn them off completely on the app.
At this early stage I am wondering about the point of going through the whole process. The only advantage at this stage is a theoretical improved soundstage from my off center listening position.
Anyway I need to get away from the stereo for a while. It does not pay to listen too much after such changes as it leads to confusion. The weather is good today and the fishing in the harbour is improving so I’ll be surf casting for the mighty trevally today. It will be good to get away from hifi!

I think you know the answer yourself. Just go without the room correction, or now with some running in, get dealer back. Perhaps a Linn owner from the forum can comment @james_n on dsp?

Yes , it’s pretty darn good au naturel.
The main reason to try the dsp to see if it makes a difference listening from my usual seating position. But that will take time and sometimes it best just to do other things.
I’ve got a bit of cabin fever from recuperating from a bike accident and then a nasty virus. But getting better and it’s spring so the great outdoors beckons.

My only Linn session was at my dealer for some new exact type system. They did not use dsp…….Linn rep was disappointed. It did not rock as well as Naim, but acoustic music and vocals were very good?

It’s great for clarity, sound stage, detail and it times brilliantly. Very lifelike and effortless. Although not perhaps as propulsive as my 272/555dr through the same amp. Early days though.

We went to see the filmed recording of the play Prima Facie this evening. Jodie Comer’s performance was mesmerising. It’s not a comfortable watch but it’s well worth seeing if you get a chance.
