Trying to get going with a ND5 XS 2

But it’s still better to connect to a gigabit router!

Your system is just fine. Just relax and enjoy it without worrying about any changes. The new streamers have better network performance than the old ones so your dealer is right.

It’s not Gigabit once you have the port connected to a Naim streamer. If it was you’d have only silence. :joy:

Stephen, how did you fix it? Show us your black box

The whole system has now gone dead. No music. PC laptop working solid as is usual. I cannot play any music from ND5 XS 2.

why? sometimes it happens: restart your router, switch off your ndsx2, and when ethernet is back, switch on your nd5xs2. It should work.
As for the dedicated switch, it costs 20 GBP. A lot here have a dedicated switch. But no hurry.

This happens to me on occasion. Usually shutting off the ND5 XS, and rebooting the router as FR has said, will work. My router needs to be rebooted on occasion, and the ND5 XS as well.

Ok thanks.

The first thing to do is kill the app (double click it and swipe it off the screen) then restart it. If that fails, turn the streamer off and on again. Restarting the router is usually a last resort.

As HH says.

When you say it won’t play music, can you see the music via the Naim app but it won’t play or can’t you see the Server at all via the app? Also no Tidal or iradio?

Best

I would add before panic sets in, this is not normal & on the odd occasion it’s happened to me, it usually turns out to be operator error or similar.

PHEW. Ok folks, back up & running. Thanks y’all!

What I think has happened…SWMBO wanted to watch something on iPlayer (for some reason it would not load). I shut everything down, re-booted iPlayer (it loaded), went to boot Naim: nothing. Listened to you folks on this forum and shut everything down again. Re-booted, still nothing. Went to do a internet search and to find problem and realised (at that moment) that I should of manually turned the WiFi back on the iPad = Now Naim ND5 XS 2’s music is back on!!

Mike-b is absolutely spot on. Thanks forum! Now for some music!:grinning:

Thank you Mike-B.:sunglasses:

Hi Stephen, its good to see you making progress & now positive your are about your new toy & streaming in general.

Rebooting is a tool to use if the system gets confused but more commonly there will be a need when you power everything off when you are away from home.
Rebooting is normally not a problem, but there is a right way to do it…

Shut down everything that is connected or associated with your network & linked to the router. Leave the router off for 5 or even 10 minutes, this allows the ISP to recognise that the router has gone offline.

Then you need to power up in the right sequence. A way to remember is to start nearest the ‘outside world’ & work in to the last in line. Wait until each item has completed its switch on process before powering up the next item, that gives everything time to establish itself with the router.

So for you …
Wireless router - let it fully complete its start process.
NAS - let it complete its start process
ND5 …. it should find the network automatically but may need some time or manual help with the front panel buttons.
Control Device (tablet or smartphone)
In some cases of network discovery problems it might be beneficial to reset or even delete & re-install the app.
Then the rest of everything you have, wireless or wired.

Rebooting is a state of modern life, TV/Sky box, Naim streamer, X Box, the trick in a household of conflicting use is to get a time that rebooting doesn’t get one party mad.

Thanks Mike-B for sharing of your technical knowledge and experiences on this here forum. This place is a much richer place from you contributing here. I remember from the old forum how valuable your vast knowledge, experience and the willing to help others in difficult HiFi situations is. It is very much appreciated. I did not know, until now, the sequences as to re-booting in such circumstances. Now I know from your suggestions, and it has worked. I am now listening to my music with such gleeful joy again this evening… a reality check was all that was needed. I’m still finding my way around streaming and your posts have helped me immensely. Thank you.

It’s Microsoft’s favorite solution. Ctrl-Alt-Del It fixes everything!

Today I have been listening to my ripped CDs that are stored onto my QNAP and played back using the Asset server. All in all the sound quality is much better than streaming from Tidal in HiFi tier mode. It just is…

Indeed it is so. This is why I use Bubble Server on my ND5XS - Qobuz and Tidal are as good as streaming from my NAS.

This streamer is obscenely good. It absolutely blows away my excitement ‘run in’ days of old from when I first purchased my CD3 player in the mid-nineties. I mean stupidly so…:sunglasses:
