Trying to get going with a ND5 XS 2

No I gave up as I also had issues trying to log on to apple in the beginning…must be processor based I guess. Because iOS was fine. Just kept saying naim could not be installed on this machine…and tidal

I’m really pleased for you Stephen - light (and music) at the end of the tunnel. I’m sure you’ll have a lot of fun over the long weekend and well into the future with your new player :sunglasses:

Best

@Stephen_Tate I had a spare iPad which I could have gave you …then I remembered I also had issues with it.
I was the wife’s but she had WiFi issues and kept putting it away. Mind she hates any technology.
Hope you get it sorted mate
As I said the ND5 is amazing

Thank you James! :sunglasses:

If you some day subscribe to Tidal, that is also a great way to discover new music. I tried Tidal and became addicted to it!

Hi Daniel,

Yes thanks., I have tried Tidal, but with only via my laptop on the old setup. I was using Qobuz for a few years and cancelled it a few months back. Now I have the Naim streamer I will revisit Tidal and set up a HiFi account, see how it goes…i do like to discover new music. At the moment i’m just trawling through my rips…

You can run Qobuz if you load Bubble upnp on the Qnap. It’s really easy, but one for another day. Just don’t feel that Tidal is your only option.

That sounds like a good plan Nigel, but like you say, one for another day.

Thanks

I thought you didn’t need Bubble in the new streamers to use Qobuz?

You can certainly use Googlecast or whatever it’s called, to cast Qobuz from a phone or pad, but my understanding is that the SQ isn’t as good as upnp like Bubble. I may be wrong on that of course.

When you’ve run out if things to make you tear your hair out, you can give Roon a try too! That gives you access to Tidal and/or Qobuz, and integrates it with your own library on your NAS. OK, you probably don’t ‘need’ it, but it’s a pretty slick user interface, and you might like it. You’ll be able to get a free trial of all this on the back of your streamer purchase.

perhaps Stephen can breath a bit for the moment and just enjoy his new nd5xs2. After all these technical pc/ ipad problems, i would not personally want to hurry now on new interface, software, roon…etc
Just my feeling

Absolutely FR, I’m not really in the mood for anything technical at this stage. I’m just going to enjoy my locally stored music and internet radio at this time. The iPad is wasted really, because i’m only using it for the control of the unit, all other stuff I will use a Windows laptop for. The iPad itself serves me no interest. I have taken out the Hi-Line and put in the grey lavender just for an observation but that’s about it. Just letting the player settle in.

It’s nice to just be able sit back with some comfortable clothing and slippers on and just let the music wash over me, beer in hand of course…It’s lovely to just chill…

Have yourselves a great weekend!

Yes, but at what volume do you keep the nait 5si?

Good advice…just enjoy, its taken a while to get here. Its also a great place to stop and enjoy music, but think about the future. If you are happy with your system…thats a great place to be.

Hi Andrea,

I normally listen with the volume dial from anything around 9 '0 clock to 10 '0 clock depending on music genre, production quality etc…my listening room is in close proximity to my neighbours so I have to respect their privacy and can’t go too mad. Saying that, I have had the 5Si up to 11 '0 clock, in the past (silly season), with no problems at all

Ok. Let’s say that at 10.00 the volume is quite high! The Right Perbio. Nait 5si in my opinion is 09.00. 11.00 am splits!

Yes I agree, it does start to fall over at around 11 on the dial and that’s with driving my Neat Motive SX2 speakers. 9 is nice & comfy.

Well done guys, you’re a great forum, much more patience that I’d have frankly.

Hi Gazza,
i will be looking to match the ND5 XS 2 with it’s natural partner, the XS2 amplifier, in hopefully the not too distant future. The Classic series is, for me, out of reach, not just financially but also from a lifestyle perspective. I just don’t have the environment to accommodate such a system, even if i was financially able to do so. After some initial thought i think a maxed out XS2 system will be where I eventually want to end up. Not a shabby system by any stretch of the imagination.
I’m really enjoying this new streamer. Even this evening and tonight after just 1 day’s burn in I can clearly hear it getting better and better from first switch on. I was already smitten to start with so i am starting to feel rather excited, even at this stage of the game.
