Upgrade LP12 or go RP10/aphelion

It intrigues me too, would like to know too.

The Aphelion was responsible for that, IMO.

I really like my Apheta 3, although considering Lyra, Hana & Dynavector as possible alternatives when it comes time to change🤔
Of course, a replacement Apheta 3 is just as possible…

It’s a led lamp.

I read a review just now of the Aphelion2, on a P10, and here’s a quote: “it cuts through the myth of vinyl warmth to reveal that this format is as neutral and capable of high resolution as anything.”

To me it destroyed all warmth, and was too high resolution if there is such a thing.

I recognise this issue. I have an LP12 and I have 3 different sub-chassis I have bought over the years. The most expensive and newest one is a detail fest. Amazing resolution but cold and emotionless. ( in my system). It came back out.

Either your toe taps or it doesn’t.

Saw the DG1 at my hifi store, it is a very different look, very modern, the guy who runs the store rates Vertere very highly indeed. But for me it has to be an LP12 I have just wanted one for so so long that going for anything else just isn’t going to scratch that itch.

I was exactly the same in 2021 when I finally scratched that itch and I can honestly say that I have never been happier.
My vinyl never sounded so good. Check my profile for the complete solution I have finished at, but man this LP12/Naim System is just “the Dogs…”

I can understand easily. My Rega P10 and Lyra Kleos verges towards a neutral sound, which can render some recordings a bit bright.
The Rp10 and Lyra Delos were softer and less forgiving, but with less grip and articulated bass.

And to be clear when I say “it” I mean the total package. I never experimented to see whether a cartridge change would make the music more agreeable.

Your question interests me @Mike_S . It’s one that I have loosely considered but have never really been confident enough about holding the folding to explore.

Our Linns are v similar. I once wrote to Linn asking, if they had my Linn what would they do next. They said address the power supply.

So what if you went the full nine yards on it, and went for a Radikal and never did anything else? How would that be? I doubt I will ever know, but you just might.

Best of luck in making your decision. And enjoy the dems that will undoubtedly follow.

Lots of people here love their top-flight Regas, and I must say that having once heard a RP8 with Apheta into a Rega IOS, I formed the opinion that if I was starting afresh, it would be with a Rega. However, such an opinion is well nigh near useless because neither of us are actually starting afresh. But I’m sure you get it.

Best,
Chris

If you put a Koetsu or Clearaudio cartridge, the sound will completely change.

As a recent recipient of a Rega P10 + Shelter Harmony MC cartridge (20 hours in thus far) I can add my love of the combo: detail, dynamics and the feeling that you’re not hearing the turntable but rather what’s on the record itself with no colouration. It’s not analytical or dry but fun and engaging. Not a “romantic” sound, sure but I want to hear the music and not a caricature of it.

Fair enough.
I just wanted something that sounds truly excellent and was simple to set up.
It blew me away when I first put it on.

Impressive piece of kit :+1:

I presume that the object opposite the tonearm is a turntable light, is it something you’ve bought?

Thanks it’s a fraction of the prices for linn and rega and sounds amazing! It’s actually a book reading light I used to use on stage to read my lyrics which I utilised for seeing the records at night. Works well

They’re amazing looking things!! Is it right that you start it by manually rotating the platter?

Lyra cartridge too?

They are “reasonably priced” too, always surprised by that when I go virtual turntable shopping

Yes you just nudge the platter and it starts. Great unipivot arm too. Lyra cart yes. Spend a lot more on linn and rega to get close in my opinion and the company are great at then end of a phone if you need them. Unless you love spending money of course

Tend to agree with lack of Naim support in NZ. Still have my Naim ND 555 with PSU which I really enjoy
