I created a Qobuz Playlist for these releases at 2026 Tone Poets
I couldn’t find the Curtis Amy on Qobuz so that’s omitted, and the Q2-Q3-Q4 Exclusives are unannounced so they aren’t there either.
Holy cow thanks! It’ll only take me 17 hours to go through this LOL…
Any thoughts here on what you feel may be an essential purchase?
Bobby Hutcherson Components and Sam Rivers Dimensions & Extensions are my top choices from this list.
So far I’m excited for,
- Andrew Hill – Compulsion
- Larry Young – Mothership
- Bobby Hutcherson – Components
- Jackie McLean – Vertigo
- Ike Quebec – Bossa Nova Soul Samba
- Sonny Rollins – Sonny Rollins, Vol. 2
- Sam Rivers – Dimensions & Extensions
- Jimmy Smith – The Sermon!
- Hank Mobley – Dippin’
Some of these are more challenging titles, so might not be for everyone. There are also some other titles I’m not familiar with – and haven’t listened to yet – so there could be some surprises.
I’m a TP Society subscriber so I’ll end up with them all anyway.
I think titles from above that are great and should appeal to all are,
- Ike Quebec – Bossa Nova Soul Samba
- Sonny Rollins – Sonny Rollins, Vol. 2
- Jimmy Smith – The Sermon!
- Hank Mobley – Dippin’
I didn’t know Harold Mabern played with Hank Mobley! I’m such a nOOB
On our wedding night (1995) we stayed in a local hotel where the Harold Mabern Trio was playing. He gave us a signed CD and dedicated a ballad to us.
Awesome!!! I love how he plays.
I was turned on to him listening to a track he did with Norah Jones……
For me it’s
McCoy Tyner - Asante
Tyrone Washington - Natural Essence
Lee Morgan - City Lights
Lee Morgan - Sixth Sense
Lawrence Marable - Tenorman
Dexter Gordon - Dexter Calling
Curtis Amy - Trippin on Through
Ike Quebec - Soul Samba
Curtis Fuller - Vol 3
Booker Ervin - Structurally Sound
Bobby Hutcherson - Components
I’m adding: Big John Patton – Got A Good Thing Goin’
I streamed it this afternoon while cycling on my stationary trainer and it really smokes. Made those virtual climbs a bit easier. LOL
Well in complete musical contrast, I’ve pre-ordered the new Mayhem album, Norway’s black metal legends. Seeing them in London too in February - ears in for a battering to be sure
I think I’ve got all of these - either as originals, Japanese reissues, CDs or as part of Mosaic sets. So I will probably pick up a few when the sales are on.
It will be interesting to see how the sound of the Marable, recorded for the small Jazz West label, compares with Fresh Sound’s vinyl reissue.
I really enjoy this. Thanks! (Love Kenny Burrell’s playing here)
James Allsopp - Stars and Sand, Impossible Ark Records (2025)
Limited Edition of 300.
I’ve bought a few releases from this excellent independent label over the years and two by James Allsopp both of which where also very limited runs nicely pressed and presented and at £20 les p&p I would say that these people are more in it for the music than the money. Look forward to this new release out later this month which has good reviews from Giles Peterson so far.
Zbigniew Namyslowski Modern Jazz Quartet - Lola, Decca (2025)
Polish Quartet recorded in 1964 and reissued as part of the British Jazz Explosion series on Decca Records.
Momoko Gil - Momoko, K7 (2026)
Debut solo release from a rising star of the UK Jazz, Electronica genre. Excellent first effort.
This was on my list of stuff to check / pre-order and it slipped. No surprise, it’s sold out. Must be good.
