I have always found it quite amusing that the seller of vitus proclaims loud and clear that multiple Naim owners find the vitus superior. Always struck me as a “vitus seller in vitus better than Naim shock” sort of rhing

Well, thats not 100% accurate, as i have explained, to the best off my ability.

I know what you are saying Tim, and i did start this process with my feet 100% planted on the floor, and yes i almost jumped.
But there are a few things i haven’t mentioned and probably wont, but interesting all the same and certainly made me think even more about it all and that i have certainly made the right decision by staying put.

I tried some Witch Hat interconnects and speaker cables and all of them took me away from the thing I love about Naim.

Please do mention the few things that you are holding back.I would like to audition the Vitus in the near future so this will give me some ideas of what you’re holding back (be it good or bad).
Thanks

I have a 22 x 11 foot room.

My Naim system sits in the middle of the 22 foot wall.

This is because with quite a long thin room I want to avoid sidewall reflections.

I cant turn my system around, due to fire place, plus the room works this way round and it wouldn’t any other way

I would rather not right now, but it might come to light one day. But its nothing to do with vitus and its product and so wouldn’t help you in a decision making kind of way.
My best advice is try one, be very open minded about it all and definitely live with one for a few weeks and then pop the naim back in, you will know straight away if its for you or not.

How close to the sidewalls are your speakers?

And how far out from the front wall?

Would it be worth trying a set of superlumina and/or HiLines to compare with the Morgana?

Having gone back to a 3 piece rack, i have had to once again move my speakers back to a worse position, but to be fair i have played alot with speaker positions in my room, and yes its a compromise in the position they are right now, but its not a massive difference or problem and the fact 12’s seem to get over this issue much better than other speakers. They are away from the rear wall by about 250mm right now, but as said i did move them away from the corners more when i had the 2 rack set up.
As for cables, yes i have used 2 hilines for many years, liked the sound, but both failed for no apparent reason, tried the superlumina but didnt really see a big difference over the highline for the cost, so tried the morgana and liked what it did and for the cost, i think its a bargin

I have messed with my rack yesterday, as with the storm we had, it had to be un plugged, so decided to have a go.
Fitted my spare standard height shelf to the bass off my middle rack, put my power block on it and managed to tuck all the mains cables away from the rear, so much more space for them, also with the 500 and 552 now higher, that made the cables better between them, also swapped the 500 and 552 power supplies over, which also helped.
But i would like to go back to 2 racks and have the extra space for my speakers, it would mean that i would have to once again have power supplies and other gear on the same rack, but maybe that is better than what i have know? I guess only one way to find out

Can you try the speakers further out in front of the racks and as close together as poss, to keep them away from the sidewalls?

Dunc

Serious kudos to you for carrying on through with a very honest journey trying out another pasture, giving it proper time to reach a conclusion, even if the answer proved a surprise.

I’m sure if you can find the space, two racks will work better for your system.

Re interconnects, I switched from hi-lines (too delicately constructed for their own good) to sarum and found it a very positive change.

As said some things better and some worse, but sometimes better the devil you know.

Pic time, 2 racks v 3 racks, once again both have advantages and disadvantages, the twin rack has better cable dressing due to height and I have move space to play with speaker position, disadvantage, power supplies in the same rack, if I swap over the 2 bottom rows, as to move the naim power supplies over to the other rack, cable dressing becomes a problem, due to all the mains cables having to cross over at the back, while as in the pic, the cables are quite good.

Do you have a wood burner? I fear your wife might disapprove but I am pretty sure it would work better without that (Welsh?) dresser?

I do have a wood burner in the same room, but the dresser isnt going anywhere, as already tried that one about 2 years ago
