Vitus integrated amp v 552/500

I personally think the twin rack is the better compromise out the 2

well I did point out that using non-naim cables would not be the best way to judge the Naim equipment.

Now that you have sold your WH cables, it seems you find the sound quite ok, I suppose you are now using the original Naim cables.

Only the mono 500 ones, as using cheap and cheerful RCAā€™s for the rest right now.
But looking forward once again to the improvement the full morgana loom will bring

Out of curiosity, and also for a potential future upgrade, do you use the optional internal dac or an external?

Furthermore, have you compared the Gryphon Diablo 120 vs 300?

Hi Dunc.
I just thought Iā€™d show you what it took me to getting my Fact 12s to work in a room, which from a dimensional point of view is not terribly dissimilar to yours ( 3.6x6.0m). Visible GIK monster bass traps in the corners and membrane absorbers tuned to 100 Hz behind the curtains.
With the risk of being called an arrogant old fart, I think you are barking up the wrong tree here. No amount of alternative hardware/ cable purchases is going to ā€˜saveā€™ your replay. ( Sorry, but it had to be said) ā€¦running for cover now! ATB Peter
PS. Speakers are 1.6 metres from front wall ( front baffle) and 85 centimetres from sidewalls

Hi Peter, was this trial and error on your part or did you get a professional in to advise?

Hi Gazza. I took me 12 months to get it right to my old ears after a lot of reading up on the subject and help from GIK. A labour of love which also took a lot of experimentation. Fact 12s I have learned need oodles of space around them. But it can be doneā€¦:hugs: ATB Peter

Interesting Peter, as the Fact 12 is probably my next upgrade from 25.26

Gazza, if you fancy a chat you could get my details off the Trimley- brigade :+1:t3: ATB Peter

Does it sound better, too? I wouldnā€™t be surprised. Partly from the 552 position and partly for the speakersā€¦

I would swap the two racks round, so that the Rega and 552 and 500 head units are on the left. Put the two Naim supplies on the right, so that their burndies can hang free. You really want the Rega phono stage away from the power supply. If the Rega was on a Rega wall shelf it would sound better and would give you another shelf to play with.

As I said above, I canā€™t really swap them about as the cables from the 500 and 552, then get in the way off all the mains cables, this set up is the best I can do for cables, with what I have.
Also the wall bracket for the rega, is worse as have one and tried it, reason I think is because itā€™s a stud wall and the void and construction acts like a vibrating drum

Cheers peter, I have seen that pic a few times and noticed the bits you have, the wife would go mad if I even suggested anything like that, so not happening.
But I found the fact 12 an easier speaker for placement over the ones I have tried in this room

Fair enough!

Iā€™ll bet youā€™re relieved no one has suggested you need to change your speakers!

Certainly 2 racks are better as speaker placement will have more effect than cable dressing.

I think your setup would likely hugely benefit from some digital room correction as unfortunately you have very little scope in optimising speaker position physically.

Home Audio Fidelity have got some very good feedback on the Roon forum. Worth a google.

@Dunc

Nice system!

If possible, as Peter suggested, some room treatment could make an immediate and very noticeable improvement in sound quality.

Considering your speakers placement it is very much possible (if not obvious) that youā€™re experiencing some acoustic issues: low end pics (bass building up in corners behind the speakers), unstable stereo image and blurred mids and highs (due to left and right first reflections).

Room treatment is rather cheap comparing to gear, and the improvements in terms of SQ are stunning.

I followed that path. For me, it was very well spent money with results beyond expectation.

The whole process took about 2 years. I massively used REW and a calibrated microphone.

You can do it yourself or with professional help. GIK Acoustics offers rather good options in terms of advice and treatment.

Of course, if treatment is not possible just forget all the above. :innocent:

Hi Dunc. As both a different speaker position and room treatment is a no goer by the sound of it, sjbā€™s suggestion makes a lot of sense in your case. ATB Peter
