The Rolling Stones - Love You Live, as i play this for the umpteenth just noticing how well Charlie’s drums are captured. Jagger on energetic form too, although I’m pleased he later abandoned his barking / slurring style of singing that he used at this time.

Michael Stanley Band “You Can’t Fight Fashion” (1983) The last of the EMI releases. Time for new contract negotions, MS decided to play hard ball and ended up being without a new record deal. Two self-released albums followed but this was the beginning of the end for MSB, although Michael would continue releasing new music for another thirty years.

Beethoven, Symphony No. 6 “Pastorale”. Berlin Philharmonic, Herbert von Karajan. Original 1977 DGG LP, part of the Complete Symphonies box set.

Starting Sunday morning with Karajan and the Pastorale. I bought that box set in 1977 (I was 16 at the time) after deciding that since I was to listen to classical music all my life, I might as well go ahead and buy the reference version of Beethoven’s symphonies right from the start.

Sure enough, even though my preference now goes to more emotional and dynamic versions instead of Karajan’s high-precision, flawless execution, Karajan’s 1963 (on CD) and 1977 (LP) cycles with the Berlin Phiharmonic remain important items of my record collection to this day and, IMO, a sure bet for someone loooking for his or her first complete set.

Michael Stanley and the Resonators “Stage Pass Live” 03-07-2020 (almost a year prior to Michael passing). In good spirits and playing for his life-long fans at the same venue I saw him at in roughly 1976. Big H, if you still visit the forum, this is for you.

Growing up I used to hear this a lot as it was one of my father’s favourites. Very much a curate’s egg with great songs and terrible songs but ‘Something in the air’ is just brilliant and will always have a special place in my musical heart
