Say what you will but it takes real talent to be able to write pop songs with a good hook like Poker Face.
There I said it!

Prompted by @crispyduck’s Thunderclap Newman Post thought I’d listen to some decent Jimmy McCulloch guitar, especially " Cafe On The Left Bank "

Wings - London Town, this album, along with Back to The Egg, is hopefully due soon in the Archive Collection series of releases.

Heard a PS song on the radio yesterday so put this on.

Great stuff.

Yes, excellent guitarist, sadly no longer with us, but some very good work with McCartney, especially live.

Probably more classical than jazz, and rather wonderful.

King Hannah
State Trooper

Following the release of their debut EP Tell Me Your Mind And I’ll Tell You Mine late last year via City Slang , Liverpool duo King Hannah , led by the creative force of Hannah Merrick and Craig Whittle , have shared a cover of Bruce Springsteen ‘s 1982 track “State Trooper “.

We have always loved the Bruce Springsteen album Nebraska, how sparse and raw it sounds, and how it is effectively a live demo recording. We wanted to keep that live-feel when covering State Trooper and so we tracked the song live in our little home studio. We tried to do justice to the atmosphere of the original when arranging the track, with rumbling tom-heavy drums, warm creamy guitars and intimate slap-back vocals.

Loving what this group are producing, she’s been compared to Mazy Star, if she’s a star on this it’s of the (Alan) Vega variety. Excellent stuff.

Ali Farka Toure and Ry Cooder | Talking Timbuktu | 1994
Wonderful music and interplay between AFT and RC that hasn’t been out to play for a while here, Ry being extremely laid back and happy to perform in his underwear on a hot night.
