First of the day
Elton John - Honky Chateau, an EJ classic.
Mozart Symphony no. 40 - Prague Chamber Orchestra / Mackerras
I saw that @KJC was playing the LPO version under Mackerras, so I went in search of it on Qobuz. Instead of that, I found this, which is a remarkably agile performance and sound. Quite refreshing compared with the more ponderous versions I’ve been used to.
Focus - Moving Waves / 2001 Red Bullet / Netherlands CD / RB 66 188
The opening track of this is going to fully wake me up!
I’ve only ever been aware of the singles and have never listened to the full album. At the time I was an indie fan and steered clear of behemoth albums like this - think Van Halen( jump album ?) was huge at the time as well.
Wow, full of surprises. Parts I’d never heard on the singles/radio. Bits I thought were there aren’t, new parts appearing from the mix.
The one and only Zappa album I own. Inspired by @anon10403888 earlier post of Frank Zappa’s interview and views of the music business.
Not played this for donkeys, but fitting as I thinks it’s a satire on the music biz
Original LP
Ah, hail hail The Central Scrutinizer. Classic album!
I probably should have more Zappa in my collection
Maybe I should get Acts II & III 42 years on and complete the story

Steely Dan - The Royal Scam / 2008 Geffen / Japan SHM CD / Paper Sleeve Edition / UICY 93519
Nothin’ here but history
Can you see what has been done
Memory rush over me
Now I step into the sun
Beautiful songs from Lata and new friends. Here it’s far more Indian-pop than her greater, older playback records which feel closer to Indian oral tradition “folk” music.
Still, this is quite superb.
BBC Radio 3 Record Review, Building a Library podcast on Verdi’s La Traviata
Enjoying the new ability to connect directly to BBC Radio podcasts with a Naim Audio streamer. Previously I’d played podcasts through my ND555 by locating them on an i-device and connecting via Airplay. This is now simplified considerably.
