What are you listening to in 2023 and why might anyone be interested?

Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers with Thelonious Monk (1958)

Six tracks of inspired genius, which in my opinion is one of the most important albums in the history of jazz. I really ought to get the 2022 version with alternate takes of every track.

One of CK’s truly great recordings, with a dream cast and a magnificent recording, conducted with all of CK’s usual brilliance.

Brilliant album, in places.

Yo-Yo Ma | Six Evolutions, Bach Cello Suites | 24-96 flac

Sunday morning favorite to start the day. Yo-Yo Ma playing is so wonderful, he makes everything seems so easy, you can feel the emotion in every note. Technically and emotionally perfect.

Gearbox all-analogue vinyl. Great recording, of course, but musically I’m not feeling it right now. Maybe a few more listens required.
