Jordan Klassen - Marginalia …. New to me, found via qobuz’s New Releases playlist… gentle singer/songwriter with 6 other albums to explore.

Bingo! Exactly! (Cue sound of pennies dropping) And if you cant produce (in your own words) a meaningfull definition of what it is, then it goes without saying that you equally cant define what it isnt (“not proper reggae”) right?

In fact as a slightly different illustration, years ago Dub Vendor used to describe themselves as “The Specialists In Jamaican Music” which is how I prefer to describe although in later years they started using “Reggae Specialist” probably as it was easier to understand and reached out to a wider audience who think that the music of Ja is simply reggae when thats really only a very small part of the story.

As for Pop, all that means is a shortening of Popular and in my view there isnt necessarily anything wrong with that, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin…erm… Rush! are all quite popular here.

The Zap Pow track was really just my tongue in cheek teasing but if you fancy a dip this Trojan compilation can probably be found inexpensively.

You might then like to check out Beres Hammond, who was lead singer with Zap Pow and has gone on to be one of Jamaica’s most popular and succesfull recording artistes.

This is a really good starting point includes many of his best loved tunes up until when this was released in 2003 but he has still continued to make quality music since.

Ha! I have this one as well. I was in Fopp many years ago and it was going for a few quid - looked interesting so I took a punt - Classic.

£2.99 as I recall. I think I might have bought mine there too.

I have a vinyl of the ‘Solid Gold Cadillac’. Worth it fof the cartoon on the cover showing Mike in the driving seat - priceless.

The Kinks. The journey part one.
Do we need another compilation? If you don’t have much of their music this is very good and Part Two is released next month.
I have most of their albums so might just stream for now.

Yes it is quite a coincidence indeed given I haven’t played that album in many years.

I passed by a shop in Folkestone the other day and remembered it was once a record shop and one of the first I frequented leafing through racks of albums and finding interesting covers.
