What are you listening to in 2023 and why might anyone be interested?

The Smiths Complete Rhino Box Set Remastered by Johnny Marr.
Mint and Sealed.
I already have these albums but they’ve been scratched to buggery from being played to death during my teenage years - bought when first released. I remember bunking off school to purchase The Queen Is Dead and swanning around the Sixth Form with it.

The Eponymous debut sounds significantly better than my original and its clearly greatly benefitted from JM’s handiwork. Chuffed.

Max Würden / Format - A Strangely Isolated Place

Streaming on Qobuz (44.1/16)… continuing on through the noon hour with this album from Max Würden and enjoying the opening track very much. From the Bandcamp description: "Max’s studio recordings lined up alongside live performances; field recordings of foot-steps and sounds from deep forests amongst broken leaves and custom synthesizers; processed guitar-loops weave amongst soaring ambient pads and energetic driving analog pulses segue classic 90’s ambient depicting the very furthest reaches of space. Max’s abstract impressions were weaved together and Format was born. …so some lovely ambient music over the noon hour!

I would agree, a big improvement on the earlier re-issues as well, the 2009 180g vinyl sounds better than the original. The John Porter production left a lot to be desired for sure.

I think that’s their best by a long chalk.

I also have ‘Of Queues and Cures’, their studio album from 1978 which is great and I would also recommend their live album ‘Playtime’ which was issued about 2001 I think but was recorded back in 1979.

@TheKevster

This sounds awesome - the production is stunning. I’ve waited a long time for that first track and it is just sublime.

A class act.
