Maya Beiser x Philip Glass - 2021

I started listening to her recent rendition of Terry Riley’s In C, but this is a bit more ‘approachable’ shall we say.

My favourite John Scofield album Time on My Hands with Joe Lovano, Charlie Haden & Jack DeJohnette. Top compositions and superb ensemble playing. Blue Note 1990.

Maynard James Keenan and the boys with their first heavy metal studio album before they turned to more alternative/performance metal on one of my favourites of theirs Ænima in '96. Fabulous stuff in this genre

Nubya Garcia - Odyssey. Qobuz stream. Bought and enjoyed her first album. Giving this new one a go. To me a lot of ‘new’ jazz sounds pretty samey but Garcia is clearly one of the market leaders. Nice use of strings.

Agree about “new jazz”. Mrs R says the same about old jazz, though. No accounting for taste, I guess.

Sticking with Neil Young on CD. ‘After the Gold Rush’ - a bit of a classic.

Along with Japan '71, Earls Court '75 is THE apex.

My sympathies are with Mrs R tbh. She clearly knows her stuff  In all seriousness once you remove the genuine innovators isn’t that the case with most genres? Coming to the end of the Garcia now and I’ve really enjoyed it.
