Ashley Henry - Who we are
2024 via Tidal 24/48 stream

Today is release date for this album from the talented Ashley Henry. Just streamed it and I am very content with it. First track catched me at once, sung by Judi Jackson, what a voice! Tomorrow Vinyl should arrive. Looking forward to it.

It struck me,listening to Portrait (out today) and last year’s Linger Awhile, back to back, is that Samara is sounding less like Ella or Sarah than Abbey Lincoln. I say this because on Portrait she is not just a singer fronting a band, she’s essentially a fourth or fifth horn too. In this respect she’s like Abbey on her remarkable 1961 album Straight Ahead. Here’s that album on a recent (and very good-sounding) Pure Pleasure vinyl reissue.

Gladiator - Music From The Motion Picture

Just back from seeing the movie at the cinema so had to play the outstanding soundtrack.

What a movie, for me one of the best, absolute classic.

After one run I know for sure this will be nomination for the best jazz album of the year. Avishai Cohen (the one with the trumpet, not the one with the bass), has again done it, delivering a stunning album.

‘Alf’ – Alison Moyet

What a voice. And some killer tracks in ‘All Cried Out’, ‘Love Resurrection’ and ‘Invisible.’
