What are you listening to in 2024 and why might anyone be interested?

Too long since I last listened to this. PJ Harvey - Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea on vinyl. A bit disconcerting to note that next year this record will be 25 years old.

I was at one of the two 1980 Hammy Odeon gigs that were recorded for the first disc, one of the contributors to my hearing aids I suspect. They were great live, that album captures it well.

Kacey Musgraves - Deeper Well - Tidal 16/44
I never quite came to terms with her previous release Star Crossed, it lacked the sharp wit I love her for. This album is a return to form for my taste, not as caustically funny as earlier albums, but intelligent reflective lyrics sung beautifully over stripped back arrangements, and some wondeful lines.
Perhaps more singer songwriter than country?

Star Crossed wasn’t an easy album to listen too especially after the bubbly Golden Hour. Deeper Well is a good return to form.

I don’t think Lana Del Rey has released anything quite as good as this 2019 release.

I’ve got a fondness for break up albums, for my taste they often bring out the lyrical best in songwriters even though the pain they’re sharing can be uncomfortable, as I said for me star-crossed just didn’t work for me lyrically.

Kacey Musgraves - Same Trailer Different Park - Tidal 16/44
More Kacey, her sharp, funny studio debut, excellent alt-country and a wry loving look at blue collar America, great stuff.
