What are you listening to in 2024 and why might anyone be interested?

THis album has a really varied supporting cast – Evan Parker, Mark Knopfler, Billy Ocean and Mark Isham :joy:

My favourite Joni. For me a perfect, and still her best, album. Core.

First time I’ve played this album, it sounds wonderful.

Discogs lists it as “Per Sempre Tete”.

A very cheap album, presumably because few have heard it.

It’s a hard fought race and a photo finish, but for me, Blue wins it by a nostril hair😉

Expect you’re in the majority there.

Very good and underrated release in their catalog.

Attempted money grab is all this was.
Think the band paid his mother a token sum back at the time.
Thought he could cash in…

Opeth - Morningrise (2001 remaster)

Four monochrome albums in a row? Clearly I was in a bit of a grey mood. Not only was this my introduction to the band shortly after it released in 96-97, as well as the concept of pairing prog with death metal, but also my introduction to 10-20+ minute long tracks. And I loved it, the contrast between romantic tranquillity and brutal cacophony, all the while taking me on a rich journey where no minute is wasted despite the running time. Blackwater Park may be Opeth’s magnum opus (magnum Opeth?) but Morningrise will always have a special place in my heart.

The sound quality of this release is great, building on the improved weight of the remastered CD version by adding greater depth, detail and soundstage, while providing tangible heft in the bass, ameliorating the dryness of the '96 original.
