Benjamin Britten et al with LSO - ‘80s vinyl pressing
Brittens setting of the Latin missa pro defunctis with poems by Wilfred Owen is a spectacular piece of music. The LSO is on fine form as are the stellar list of soloists and the choirs. The settings of the Owen poems are haunting, and the whole work is a beautiful moving experience.

It’s the mid - 80’s, and I’m doing stupidly long trips offshore in Saudi Arabia, and the only thing keeping me sane was my Sony Walkman Sport, and a sackful of locally purchased dodgy cassettes.

Nobody better to lift the spirits and get the old foot tapping, and even sometimes practicing my best dance moves, than old Billy the Sneer. :notes: :guitar: :drum: :+1:

Dream Theater because it is inevitable in this house that Dream Theater & Porcupine Tree walk hand in hand…

“London Town” sounds exceptional, better than Soul Mining.

A typically high quality release (on vinyl) from Brubeck Editions. Paul Desmond went on a bender and was AWOL when Dave, Joe and Gene took to the stage. Therefore the classic Quartet was a Trio. Dave was furious about, and with, his missing bandmate – you can tell because Dave played with a rare assertiveness and the emphasis is on hard-driving rhythm rather than cool melody. Recommended.

Couldn’t resist this (The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte) vinyl £10 new, sealed, at a local record fair having seen so many great reviews. First spin and it’s clear the Mael’s haven’t lost their sense of humour and knack for a catchy hook. Picked up a couple of other new sealed albums for a fiver each (Neneh Cherry/Lou Rawls). Great way to spend a couple of hours.
