After a weekend childminding back for some grownup pleasures - the mighty Mingus live triple Atlantic album. Loving the battle of the saxes on C Jam Blues - and the winner is the remarkable Rahsaan Roland Kirk!
Big Alice is a monster of a track on this album.
Original Warner Bros vinyl pressing from 1996. No wonder I never listen to this album, because it’s complete rubbish. So sad to hear this dreck after those first two albums…
It’s not that good
The Psychedelic Furs - Talk Talk Talk
Steely Dan | Can’t Buy A Thrill | 1972
Such a great debut album now into its 50s but always a pleasure to put on again.
40th anniversary this month so I thought I’d give it a spin. I’m far from Prince’s biggest fan but Purple Rain is the genuine article. One big hit after another. Uniti Core.
CD. Remarkably ES was just 23 when she made this – her writing, bass playing and singing (often in Spanish and Portugese) is amazing for one so young. Props for Leo Genovese’s splendid piano contributions too.
The Jeff Healey Band - Road House (The Lost Soundtrack)
With Purple Rain an essential Prince album. The Cross is very special I think. Uniti Core.
The mighty Duke late into his career, on a nice-sounding Wareners CD. This album contains Johnny Hodges’ last-ever recordings for Ellington (or anyone else, for that matter).
