The interaction between phone and the machine Is a bit slow. But everything Is artisanal (just like the rest after all) so can’t really complain
Beethoven
Symphony No. 3 (“Eroica”)
The Cleveland Symphony Orchestra
George Szell, conductor
Recorded 1957; stereo release 1958
I’m trying not to post about every disc in the George Szell Complete Columbia Recordings box set which I picked up a couple of weeks ago … but it’s so good that I have to post a few of them. The Beethoven “cycle” contained within the set is really amazing, none more so than this terrific, high energy Eroica.
Overall, I am realizing that I will likely use this box set as my go-to for the German symphonic music repertoire, as canonized post-war. The Szell/Columbia box has got most of it, and the recordings range from amazing (like this Beethoven 3rd) to very solid. What a great reference.
Great choice ![]()
Setting the standard for rock and roll stadium ballads to come. Watching them play it on the David Forst Show will stay with me forever.
