You should visit “Elfde Gebod” (eleventh commandment), opposite the cathedral.
Antwerp is very nice.We are 4/5 times a year in Antwerp. We live in the most southern town of the Netherlands, about 1hour and 15 minutes drive.
Delicious food and drinks(also nice looking absint bar)at Brasserie Appelmans.
And very good watch boutiques.
Elfde gebod,indeed very nice
We have tried different shops for Belgian chocolates,we think Gunther Watte is the best.
Westvleteren beer is the best.
Indeed the 12. Rochefort 12 is close by and better available. It harmony in beer - prrfectly balanced taste.
An interesting fact is that the St. Bernardus Abt 12 is the same beer brewed with the original Westvleteren (Abby St. Sixtus) yeast. The monks no longer posses this strain and use the Westmalle yeast nowadays.
Try them side by side and you’ll see. Just make sure both sample are of a similar age.
Do you know when they changed the yeast? Last time I drank Westvleteren was after the birth of my now 11 yrs son.
What is that piece of equipment I see in second shelf below the Atom HE HH? ![]()
Books.
Can recommend Het Oud Arsenaal, it’s at Maria Pijpelinexstraat 4:
and agree that Elfde Gebod is worth a visit:
I think it was Den Engel that we went to. There was a big storm and the town was deserted. Nice beer though.
Westvleteren was brewed commercially in Watou from 1946 - 1992. But I’m not sure when exactly the strain was lost as I don’t know to what extent they kept brewing themselves non-commercially.
Kloster Andechs Bergbock hell
Should I ever go to the monastery to become a monk, then only because of brewing beer. Purest meditation.
Louis is interested, but of course this is not for young boys:
This is really good, the first time I’ve had anything from Powder Monkey. It’s brewed in Gosport, just across the water from the Dockyard, where we were today.
From presumably your cat’s posture it’s not happy with the smell of that beer.
