What’s going to happen?

Spot on Mike - it’s the full package that must be addressed

And frankly I’m not sure that’s going so well in Aus at the moment

Sorry in my little Olive world it’s about servicing, I’m not a DR fan at all. Lp12 all the way!

On a completely different matter, I see you have a double core door listed in your profile. What did you use? I have two doors in my music room that reflect a bit of bass - I can leave them open sometimes, but other times need to “keep the sound in the room” for family harmony. Is your double core door for sound proofing, or room treatment for acoustics?

Hi Mike, for sound proofing. It’s an older house I think late 60’s. It’s a 39 mm solid core door from Bunnings, think it cost around $140? They have different thicknesses and it’s possible to order a size thats not available in store. Heavy as all hell must be around 40 kg, I have one for our bedroom as well. With the extra weight the new hinges squeaked, I placed a drop of sewing machine oil on each of them which silenced them.
So yes the door helps but was done with the floor, walls, ceiling and pvc windows. I can pretty much play it at any volume without any complaints from the neighbours the only issues is the sprung floor, when we did the carpet a few mates and myself fastened 1000 screws into the Rimu board’s what a massive upgrade plus it helped the sound proofing, but yet it is a wooden sprung floor at the end of the day which has its limitations.
My Wife, well it’s a lot better than before but still not a single man house as I would like it to be when it comes to my free time😙. I’ve used 13mm noise control gib which Is very solid, it is possible to double it and can help with bracing for earthquakes.

No update from Salisbury then. Encouraging.

The silence is deafening, not great PR work is it. I thought the thread had been removed.

I’m not sure what to expect. Richard made it clear that the change was a work in progress. It would be unusual for any company to provide a rolling commentary regarding future contracts.

It’s bl**dy frustrating, but at least it’s known that a change is in prospect, rather than it being suddenly introduced later this year aka c.June.

See my post from last week, here;

Not disagreeing with you however the problem is that it appears that industry talk has already had an effect. One Statement owner is already going to sell as he has been told that Naim will be no longer be serviced in NZ. I thought it would have been in Naims best interest to stop the gossip before it does any more damage.

This thread made me take a look at the dealers near me just to verify my beliefs. Just looking at website alone, it appears few in Melbourne carry more than the Uniti range. A few do and they carry the most basic products. One has a long impressive list but located at a relatively shabby place on the 1st floor so I am not sure what to make of it. My local store only goes as far as NAC202 and NAP200DR. :disappointed:

I am intrigued about level of service available. Might call and find out some time. I only started in Naim back in 2018 so still a newbie with no experience of any service hence expectations there.

Thanks @Naim.Marketing for letting us know Mu-So is made in China and @Innocent_Bystander it is so true that most components are probably made in China. Some Naim’s literature talks about its testing & component selection process. Reminds me of tube companies that don’t actually make tubes but test and put their badge on those that pass their test. Not saying Naim does at all!

Yes exactly

Pretty easy to release something banal to keep the wolves at bay.

"Now that it’s public knowledge, we want to acknowledge the valuable contribution Chris and his team have made to the Naim brand success in New Zealand. Thanks Chris.

We’d like to reassure our valued Kiwi customers that New Zealand holds a special place in the Naim world. We look forward to announcing exciting news about new supplier and service options in the near future."

Blah blah blah

I have a lot of empathy for you guys.

20 years ago, give or take, I spoke to Naim about equipment support, eg tables, shelves etc. Fraim hadn’t appeared at that time !

I was told, very positively, that Naim amps had specially designed rubber feet that enabled it to sound at its best on any sturdy surface. Not quite “plonk and play” but almost.

My dealer and I both knew better, so I bought stuff called Base. It did sound better and it also tidied up the stack of amps etc.

Guess what !! Yep, you’ve got it, about 2 months later, Naim released Fraim.

Pi**ed off just doesn’t get close to my feeling.

And before anybody quibbles, sure they might just have conceived, designed, developed, manufactured, etc, etc in 2 months, so weren’t able to provide different advice at the time of my enquiry.

Not sure what’s the trend in other parts of the world. In Australia, with people working from home, spending much more time at home and not spending on holiday. HiFi sales was very strong last year along with furnitures and anything home improvements. So much so, in some businesses, it bettered previous year by considerable margin and some companies are doing the right thing handing back government handouts.

I hope Naim’s sales saw similar trend and would expand and improve its dealership and support networks and market footprint.

People, from what I here it’s just not New Zealand that’s been in the crosshairs.

Paulmoney are now selling Naim Audio in NZ. This completely cheapens the brand imo.
The days of the dealer setup at your house have long gone. Nice one.

Only the Muso and Uniti range according to their web site though…

Yes, the try at home with the classic range could be a past thing…

So the uniti range will never need back up service and installation from a qualified Naim dealer?
Did you see how many other brands they sell? Just another hifi brand these days, nothing to see here.

Don’t know how long this will last in this forum, but here’s a screen shot of the web site and note I could get the whole lot on my iPhone Max pro.

Sir could I demo please?

It seems the days of a specialist hi fi dealer is dying a slow death. Shame I often wonder how Julian would feel about it.

Well I did read he was happy for good KPI’s, but yet the Linn way wasn’t his future plan for Naim. I guess times have changed “a lot” and the market is cut throat ( as we have seen first hand) so I guess he would not be happy about the way things have gone. But it is what it is and not what it could be or should be! However the owners of Naim Audio need to make a bunch of money on their investment so that’s that end of story.
Atm, Chris is doing A full Monty service on my 135 amps. This makes me feel warm inside, now I can start on my lp12 upgrades, I’ll use Chris’s company to do it as I know I’m guaranteed top end results… not sure if paulmoney was doing it for me how things would work out.
Just remember Chris is still selling top end audio with top end service, just because it’s not Naim audio it doesn’t mean it’s inferior.
