What speakers do you use with your NAP 300?

Read that again, it sounds like you need a new life as it’s written.

Love my 20.26s. An underrated speaker i think. Not helped my PMC needing to upgrade them to 25 and now 25i.
Use mine driven by a 300, just happens to be MF Nu Vista 300 power, that itself has just returned from overhaul/upgrade.

S400 Ovators. Parked either side of the TV. Image positioning and depth of image really good - I treated them like electrostatics ie a pair of open air ear speakers. So much for my first ever post! Regards to you all. C

Hi Michel,
You probably heard the S1 and Apertura at my dealer place. I understand you prefer the Proac. What didn’t you liked with the Apertura, or what did you preferred with Proac?

Hi FR,

My dealer is in Versailles. If yours is there, it should be the same one.

I tested the speakers 6 years ago. This is a bit far away to have a clear recollection of the test. Nevertheless, I remember that I found the Magico thin and aggressive. The Aperturas were more to my taste compared to the S1 but I preferred the K6. I am not into upgrading them since I like them. They are probably the maximum size I would accept even though the room is pretty large. And they blend nicely in my setting, kind of disappear, being black in front of a black background. People have usually a hard time noticing them (in particular on pictures).

We have the same dealer :+1:
I see that you have done a great decorating job and your speakers are like « fondues dans le décor « . They really quite disappear.
I share your impressions on Magico S1. They major on hifi criterias, details, soundstage…but lack refinement, colors, textures.
If you have heard the Apertura Everest top of the range, they are my favourite. Faster and airier vs K6. But K6 have more bass and are more precise. I can understand your choice.

Thanks for the compliment.

I think the Apertura I listened to were the Enigma but not so sure. The price range was very similar to that of the K6 and they were also close sound-wise.

Ah yes, Enigma, not Everest. :+1:

My French isn’t great anymore so I’ll borrow from Frenchrooster. Love the look of this room.

How does your NAC552 work with the Arcam? Do you use the AV Bypass mode, and the AVR 850 still powers the front (music) speakers? Does it work well? I have an AVR 850 with an NDX2 and am looking at upgrade possibilities. I’m considering:-

  1. An XPSDR for the NDX2or even 555PS.
  2. A SN3 used in AV Bypass mode.
  3. A NAP250 to pre-out the front speakers.
Any views out there on best ‘bang for my buck’?

If you use the AV bypass mode, the signal for the front speakers would be routed via your Naim preamp to the power amp. Volume control though would be via your Arcam. To indicate this is pertain all the green light on your preamp volume control goes out.

I’ve used this very successfully for many years. You need to connect the Arcam to the NAC using the pre out connections on the back of your Arcam.

Kudos Titan 606. Works a treat :grinning:

You’re going to have to put another row in your spreadsheet.

I am the lucky owner of a pair of PureAudioProject Trio 15 Classics … these are open baffle speakers, each speaker has 2 X 15" woofers and a full range Voxativ ac 1.6PiFe driver …

The speakers are rated at 8ohm and 94db sensitivity … easy to drive, very fast with great bass response. Superb mid range … Speakers are a tad large at 24inch wide … 50in tall … and a maximum depth of 16in.

My room is a 22ft square with a 6 sq ft notch taken out of one corner and 10ft ceiling … the speakers are placed in the 16 ft “bay” … 3 ft from the side walls and 6 ft apart measuring from the inside edge, both around 2ft from the back wall.

They are my end game speaker. I really can’t speak too highly of them.
