Nice
Thanks. Its to replace a normal HCDR that powers a cb 62. Nice to have it matching.
Very neat. I seem to remember a member posting that an Italian dealer had done this conversion on their Olive Hicap.
Good to see a single 24v rail on socket 3, so it’s a proper CB Hicap.
Oooh, looking forward to your findings.
I went through the range of Wiim streamers, Mini to Pro to Pro Plus, as I was curious how they compared to my Apple TV (into an Arcam irDAC) and a Bluesound Node 2i. The Pro+ was, to my ears, best of the Wiim bunch, when using its own DAC. That said, I sent them all back to Bezos and co, as the ATV->DAC, and standalone Node were very similar.
That said, I like the look of the Ultra and will probably try one soon, too.
changes are on the way.
Aavik i880?
I see so they use copper in the speaker cables. Very interesting. I’ve used silver cables successfully as interconnects. I did not like silver power cables in my system.
If i was willing to spend that kind of money on speaker cables, I would consider auditioning the oephi speaker cables.
Price to performance I would still hold NAC A5 right up there, even in a non Naim system which I’ve done. I would describe the NAC A5 as a dirty but glorious sound, Much like vinyl.
nope. new aavik u-588 all-in-one announced in munich earlier this year. simplification hopefully with no degradation in sound.
580?
Hi Charles and @Jamiewednesday, the Ultra got delivered yesterday evening and I’ve just set it up in the system early this morning.
Later on today (at a more civilised hour) I will set about recabling both systems in the cabin as they’ve experienced a number of short term shuffles and the cables are now a mess.
So will report back later on how it sounds in more detail.
However, if a first experience with a product is anything to go by then the standard of packaging and the feel of the device itself are something exceptional, especially for the cost.
Unpacking it is like an Apple product, and setup is an absolute doddle. Given the Ultra is approx 1/3 roughly of the price of the Pro Plus it’s a big jump up on product feel.
All up and running in about 10 mins and that included firmware update.
Very quick spin of some tracks all sounded promising but will push the envelope more later in the day. Touch screen is a nice addition as well over Pro Plus and a lot more product heft.
Reshuffle completed to accommodate the Wiim Ultra and reintroduce B300 power amp to now be running R3 metas bi-amped.
Luv the Technics amp always drooled over them, but never heard one.
I was the same (unless you go back to the days as a kid) and I saw a few reviews of its big brother, the R1000, with a couple of Stereophiles reviewers wowed by it.
Then saw they redesigned the G700 in M2 guise with some of the tech from its sibling and equally saw some cracking reviews.
That plus the looks had me hooked and then @Neilb1906 swapped put his XS3 for one after auditioning his sons purchase and put a very positive post on here so took the plunge.
I’ve just swapped the Technics onto the Ls50 metas and dual kc62 system and the Densen onto the R3 metas and both appear to have more synergy. With the Densen have put the B300 back into service along with the B100 and bi-amping them like I used to way back when I had B&W 805ns.
The Technics is very refined, less raw than my Naim SN3 Hi-cap dr system, but massively different settings so no idea how much the rooms are playing out to that conclusion. Technics really images beautifully.
That ProJect looks very clean with sharp lines
hows the wiim ultra?
First impression’s very favourable, has a lovely weight to the sound, with good texturing going on and not lacking in the rhythm side of things.
Very limited listening so far but happy so far, music all hanging together very nicely on a solid structure.
Or more accurately the internal ssd inside the streamer. 4tb for £300 and I
no longer need my zenith.
Sounds promising.
I’ve also just ordered one, should be arriving later today!
If you have it into the Qutest then I’m guessing main interest would be in useability.
The Ultra feels a much more developed product, the Pro plus is excellent but very discrete, the Ultra feels like it is more happy to take centre stage from an interaction perspective.
On SQ the Ultra has a far more solid sound with more foundation and can bring great slabs of detail when using the internal DAC.
The Pro Plus is excellent, but the Ultra feels like an absolute steal and brings more to its game.
Cool, are you using it’s internal DAC then? And on Pro Plus?
