I still have two HP48GX calculators with the extra memory cards and all the manuals. I should think about selling them some day.
What a great calculator it was in the day. PCalc on my iPhone serves all my needs now.
There’s even a Swiss company making a tidy living selling extremely well engineered clones of quite a few hp calls…..
Who’d have thought it, however would we have managed without them…..?

Still use my 12c after 38 years of use.
80085 is about as far as I got with an early calculator.

It’s not hifi stuff but certainly counts as ‘gear’. We have a new telly! It’s a Panasonic Z90B 42” and it’s just wonderful. Brilliant picture quality and a built in sound bar and subwoofer, which is adequate for our needs. The old telly was a 40”; we thought about a 48” but it wouldn’t fit comfortably in the corner, so we went with the 42. What HiFi said it was the best new telly around, and I won’t argue.
I still have my slide rule ![]()
Some of us have to make do with a 12c, rather than the fancy schmancy 15c Collector’s Edition…

PS Browser cursor control is still broken.
I think that’s the same one as we got last year (unless there’s now a 2025 version). An excellent telly ! And perfect size for not dominating a room.
The Z90B was released in June 2025 apparently, though how it differs from its forebear is anyone’s guess. It’s miles better than the Panasonic LED we had before.
Looks great and built in soundbar and sub seals it for me.
Yes. Mine’ll be last years in that case. Both have the soundbar - which is perfect for my OCD quest to minimise clutter, cables and faff ![]()
Interesting to hear of your result.
I’ve recently also separated the DAC from streamer (NDX 2/555 PS here, so pretty much the same transport) and it has transformed the listening experience.
A couple of Philips CDP’s off eBay for about thirty quid.
The 610ii is now up and running and sounds great. Not much wrong mechanically with that one but now sorted, though it’s well beaten up so will get back into nice shape over the weekend.
I’ve repaired the 610 and got that working too, however there is a slight whine from the mech on middle tracks of a CD, so will try a little bearing oil.
I bought them as I just fancied trying some old Philips based machines to see how they fare and figured I could repair simple mechanical failures easily enough.
Wasn’t convinced from cold but after a little warming up, they both sound cracking. Frankly amazing value for fifteen quid each and a little bit of enjoyable time with some tools ![]()
It makes you wonder how far developments have come👍
Indeed!
I recently used a Pioneer DVD/SACD player that’s was sat at my mums unused for 20+ years. I played a standard CD through a Nait 50 and it sounded brilliant to the point that I’ve put off buying an expensive one . The wife even commented how good it sounded and that’s saying something. It would appear we haven’t moved on very far at all.
I was also impressed with a Philips 610ii which cost me £12, although it now lives with my step-daughter as I “upgraded” to a 1980s Sony ES player which somewhat uniquely has the Philips 1541 DAC
