Just doing some A-B-C ing with my study system this morning.
Using ‘Diana Krall Live in Paris’, as I have two copies to hand.
All into the nait 50 + Neat Iotas.
The 610 plays really well. I can happily leave that playing through. Switching to the TEAC + Qutest duo brings a clear difference, this is more articulate and dynamic in every way. It’s a terrific combo imo. When I switch back to 610 mid-track though, I don’t think the 610 is awful or lacking even. It’s just a bit more full and mellow, less dynamic. But very nice, very capable. No-one’s going to listen to the 610 in this system and think, ‘…what a pile of sh**!’
A slightly different story when I switch to the 610ii though. I don’t know how much of this is CDp development or just the working life of the two players, I suspect the latter or perhaps a bit of both. This is far, far closer to achieving similar levels of pleasure as the home team. It’s got much of the full richness of the 610 but now lots of the sparkle and highs of the Teac/Chord. What a machine. Must be about 35 years old and it’s been knocked about a fair bit but it sounds wonderful!
The Teac/Chord duo is still the outright winner mind, it is fantastic. However, even if you bought 2nd hand, at over 100 x the cost of the 610ii…
Edit: Just added a cheapish MCRU power cable to the 610ii (was twenty something quid off ebay) with figure 8 connector for the Philips end and it’s even better!
Edit 2: Added some weight on top (they’re quite flimsy plastic boxes with a metal lid), that helped too. Will try some weighty damping inside.
So some lessons have been learned over the years, less flimsy boxes and some attention to the power supply helps. Good enough without though.
As with the Pioneer I mentioned previously it sounds as good as the Atom through the Nait and I’d happily live with the sound. Either the players haven’t moved on technology wise or the Nait 50 is a work of Einstein type genius. I suspect the former.
I am hunting for speakers . Have yet to have a listen as it’s just flew in from dealer for the show. Since it’s so sensitive that post only what you buy and in this thread , I believe half or more of what’s in this thread has to be removed .
And I get what you mean. I will removed to start things off as per what you said .
Or both..I had a Rotel 820 back in the day, my first CD player, chosen because it sounded the most analogue to me from those I tried. That was built around a Philips mech too iirc. I don’t remember it sounding this good through a Creek 4040s2 into some Royd A7’s though…! I need to find where I put it.
@naimophile Thank you for removing the post. I saw that you had posted the speaker image in another thread about a Hifi show and had doubts that you have actually bought them.
Sensitivity isn’t the issue, it’s just logical to stick to the subject title. I do think that making comparisons of a purchase made to other equipment owned is fine → like JamieW has above.
I’ve been trying to source a NAP500 for a little while but struggled with what should have been a simple purchase, and had 2 close shaves on our favourite auction site, so when the chance to try a Moor Amps Angel 6 came up I thought why not
I don’t think it will fit the empty slot on my rack but will be interesting to hear how this sounds, and how the Nait50 compares to the 52/angel combo
What an excellent setup that is. When I had my system on a Fraim I’d get my ruler out and ensure everything was lined up to the mm. It’s good to see that not everyone is so weird.
You do seem to have the sticky ring things sitting on the cups though, so it’s probably best to remove them.
I gave up on that years ago when I had a Rottie that tended to hip-check the shelves. I had to add 3M rubber bumpers to the edges of the glass shelves so they wouldn’t chip banging into the stanchions. She’s gone but the other Rottie who’s still around avoids getting that close to the racks. Now I’m about to order a 3rd party replacement for the ‘brawn’ Fraim (I already replaced the ‘brain’ side).
