I certainly understand, it is a beast for sure. Just a shame you have to mess with it so often. Good to hear the Lux is doing well though! Have fun!
I run Roon on an Intel NUC with ROCK. Have done it for years. I like that it’s easy-peasy to update ROCK, via a prompt in the Roon controller app. I never have to access the device directly. I built it years ago (from NUC, memory and SSD storage). The Roon website has step-by-step instructions. It took me less than an hour to assemble and have ROCK up and running.
I don’t think it’s worth it. The machine is 8 years old and they no longer update the MK2 models.
QNAP make silent NASs. I’ve run one for years.

Probably not, Naim appears to have firmly and permanently nailed their colours to the streaming mast. Not that I know anything, could be a new Core next week
.
As you stated you do not require a ripper, I assume you plan to copy your music files to the Core? That is possible but subsequent meta data editing is not directly supported, you’d need to edit remotely from a Mac/PC.
But being able to replace your own storage device, the most likely point of failure, is not to be lost.

I run a Synology NAS, and although you can hear it when you’re near it, mine is downstairs out of the way. I mostly stream from Tidal now so never bothered to upgrade from the old “pay once” model to the new “subscription” model for MinimServer and if I ever stream local rips via UPnP I find the native Synology media server is just fine. Like others, I also have (lifetime, from years ago) Roon running on a small almost always silent NUC running Rock; my CD rips are also on that, in the internal music data folder. It’s also downstairs wired into a switch, out of sight and out of mind, truly just running as an appliance. I enjoy the Roon interface especially now for exploring. That said, it also ran fine on a Synology NAS and that was in the days of far less performant machines than you can easily get today. There are also a few easy-to-install Docker images that you can pull to try out (you can do that on your pc or Mac too, first installing Docker to get a feel for things…) running Roon Server in an arbitrary container environment. It certainly runs great on a Mac mini too, in case you want an excuse to buy one of those!
There are several low cost (including free) things you can likely try while your Innuos is still working so that you can learn whether there is a sound difference that bugs you.
A trivial thing to do is enable the UPnP server on your router - they almost all come equipped with one, including those supplied by your internet service provider - and put a memory stick with (at least some of) your rips on it via the USB port. Look for it in the Naim app under Servers and see how you go. You could also enable the built in streamer on your 222, again simply adding content via a USB stick. Others have reported good success using any number of tiny computers running eg Asset and I seem to recall that for at least a while @Simon-in-Suffolk had a preference for a Raspberry Pi over a few other alternatives. Needless to say, as a trial measure, you can also just run any one of many servers on your laptop or desktop and get a sense of how they function, worrying about how to get around the issue of possibly not wanting that specific device on all the time moving forward. These can all be tried in an afternoon while your reference server is still working for comparison.
As you can tell, I like trying stuff out and mostly I’m pretty satisfied with everything I’ve tried. At home, I’m glad to just use the sunk cost hardware and take the set-and-forget approach. But it’s cool to know what the options are, and to have alternatives up your sleeve for when your NAS power brick becomes a no-power brick and you need a few days to get the replacement one haha.
Good luck with whatever you try and have a ton of fun evaluating everything through your new system.
I have fanless Qnap for years, it is absolutely silent, especially with SSD.
This is interesting, did you solder any connections or screw clamp them?
Not sure I would personally open upnp on the router from a tech security perspective but maybe I misunderstood. But love my synology nas - got three
and now use my macbook pro to stream local files from synology via roon. The NAS lives upstairs and its mirror in the next room. It runs and I forget it.
Not UPnP as an access / open port… probably I would have been better to say DLNA for intranet media sharing via its built in server. The shorthand seems to be using them interchangeably. Thanks, you’re correct.
screw clamped, very tight
Remember that Luxman also supply a series of arm plates for mounting a wide variety of third party arms.
Though, I’d use the word “lightweight” rather than flimsy to describe the stock Luxman arm.
For the 191 & 171, but unfortunately not for the 151. Lightweight might better a nicer term to describe the general build of the arm, but it sits in the arm rest very flimsily.
upgrade to bedroom system. nad c3050, omega super 3i monitors and audio art classic plus speaker cables with silver bananas. sounds terrific for very little money.
Had to repost. Seems I somehow deleted my own post…
Anyway. Today I picked up a second hand 555PS DR from my dealer to try on my streamer. Technically I have not bought the power supply yet, but judging from what I hear from the reborn NDX2 tonight this is a buy.
555ps is really wonderful- so good, that I have 2 of them ![]()

I’m surprised to see another Omega owner on the forum. Rare as gold dust we are.
A lovely NAP 160. I had one more than 30 years ago, it will be fun to hear how it actually sounds…
The best things must be had at least twice.
