I’ve just bought a 2nd NAP500 (not DR) and immediately sent it for a service.
Looking forward to our house renovations to be complete so I can set up the system in active mode ![]()
Finally got round to unboxing my 3rd New in box NDX2… To be honest, I’d have given up on the second NDX2, but Peter Tyson have been fantastic… Anyway, I figured 3rd time lucky… Surely this one won’t have any marks on it ![]()
Oh, and NO, this isn’t a return or pre loved or second hand. This is a brand new sealed in box!!
I won’t be purchasing a 4th… Naims QC is appalling!!
Was it any cables placed on top of it?
Nope… The unit was in the plastic bag, and the cables were correctly boxed this time (previous ndx2 didn’t even have correct cable packaging)… The Mark was on this thing when it left the factory…
Its really poor QC… Its really that simple!!
Annoying, it might rub off with a damp cloth
Unfortunately, the picture I’ve uploaded is post damp cloth… Whilst the pic doesn’t show it on closer inspection, the mark is so bad it’s actually smoothed out the rough NDX2 finish…
But thanks for the suggestion all the same ![]()
Maybe part of their QC process is “will we get away with it?”……
It might be a returned unit that they re-boxed.
Full refund on the way.
DG…
So apparently, according to Peter Tyson, they have a deal in place with Naim, which aloud them to buy up all of Naims NDX2 units once Naim discontinued it.
Peter Tyson insists these are new units. But honestly, I’ve no idea anymore…
For the 3rd time! ![]()
I’m on my second ndx2 after a litany of issues, a week after I got it I noticed a kind of smudge on the screen, almost looks like a fingerprint on the inside of the glass, it’s quite noticeable depending on the background, I couldn’t go through the process again so decided to ignore, when it’s inevitably going back to get relays replaced under warranty I’ll get it sorted then. Yes, QC is poor but many have been lucky.
A few months ago, Naim was charging 6k for the NDX2 here in the uk… It really shouldn’t come down to luck whether or not Naim’s NDX2 has/hasn’t any defects/imperfections when being purchased new…
It’s crazy isn’t it? To hand over thousands of pounds and then cross your fingers and hope that you got a good one!
I hope you get yours sorted when you send it in eventually, and i do hope Naim steps up and swaps out the glass for free, too!
I got lucky with my Naim NDX2. When I bought mine, Naim (U.S.) sent me a show demo unit that was on product display only and never powered up. It was perfect and after a home demo for a couple weeks I purchased that unit for 15% off. It’s been great ever since, although I actually don’t use it much (I’m too much of a vinyl-head).
Build quality and Finish quality tend to go hand in hand but aren’t the same thing.
From personal experience with case issues, I rate Naim very near the top for build quality but very near the bottom for finish quality.
But how they choose to handle the issues is important and although I had some serious casework problems on multiple items, Naim took care of all of them. I might be able to fault their quality control but their service and willingness to help was first rate.
Deffo something systemic there, four duds out of four definitely fails the ‘once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, third time they’re definitely telling you something……’ rule.
If the units were being advertised as Grade A/B, that would be different and PT are doing quite a bit of that, plus shifting end-of-life stuff as well as reported by many, often very satisfied, members of this forum.

Feels like ‘Graded’ stock given the dealer apparently bought all remaining units & one box wasn’t even packed correctly. Whenever I attend HiFi shows and occasionally my dealers I’m struck by the quality of Naim boxes compared with much of the competition. Fortunately from CB, through Olive, Classic, Musos and Uniti I’ve never had a box problem. Dealing with so many poor boxes must be heartbreaking & ruins the joy of buying new kit. But there’s surely a perfect NDX2 out there.
Did it arrive in its flight case ‘box’? Very nice by the way!
Apparently,if true ,later models did not have the flight case , unconfirmed ,but I have dedicated CD12 packaging , which is monstrous for the size of the player …
